so with a few corrections and slight amendments how does this look

For we're the men from Sussex
Sussex [Sussex] by the sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men are we:
So when you go from Sussex,
wherever you may be,
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

That's the stuff ! but sorry one other I just noticed and have again highlighted needs to be added in (sing it and you will see)

That is what I sing at matches.

best

It looks fantastic, it would sound fantastic sung at the right speed, can you get it going where you sit? I'm in the West Lower and there's only scattered individuals willing to sing there.

This is excellent, love the " you may tell them all that we stand or fall for Sussex by the sea", always thought the " goin up to....." was a bit naff.

Hah! Good ole Norman Wisdom's version I believe!

No its not, that is another schoolboy version as is :

You can tell them all that they know f..k all in Sussex by the sea.

Norman Wisdoms version started off

We're the team from Brighton , Brighton by the sea etc. Cant be bothered with the rest as it has been posted many times.

They've edited the version of the tune that is used as the teams come out. It now starts with an instrumental version of the second verse. The new version lets people sing the "GOSBTS, GOSBTS, We're going up ..." bit twice.
Top work.
Sorry, LB, but I've just listened again to this
posted after the Donny game, and the instrumental sequence you hear is definitely:-

Opening Fanfare into 1st Verse, ie:-

Now is the time for marching, Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring, my boys, And take the time from me
And I'll sing you a song, as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea!

Then the Chorus, ie the part of the tune the fans don't normally sing:-

For we're the men from Sussex, Sussex by the Sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men we are we:
And when you go to Sussex, Whoever you may be,
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the Sea.

And it cuts right there!
So, no refrain, meaning no opportunity for the fans to finish off with:-

Good old Sussex by the Sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
Oh we're going up and we'll win the Cup
For Sussex by the Sea.

Surely everyone knows all four verses of Sussex By The Sea off by heart. I used to sing it at school , my parents on work and street outings, and my grandfather on his way to and from war.

It is as familiar to me as my address.

Let your voices ring my boys.

That was what was performed at the Donny game. The new edit to which I'm referring appeared at the Blackpool game. It's not quite as I first described, though. It enables it to be sung like this:-

Fanfare

Now is the time for marching, Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring, my boys, And take your time from me

Oh we're going up and we'll win the Cup

Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Light is the love of a soldier
That's what the ladies say
Lightly he goes a-wooing
Lightly he rides away,
In love and war, we always are
As fair as fair can be,
And a soldier boy is the ladies joy
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Far o'er the seas we wander
Wide through the world we roam,
Far from the kind hearts yonder
Far from our dear old home,
But never shall we forget my boys
And true we'll ever be
To the girls so kind that we left behind
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

there was a lot of la la laaaa'ing, but definitely as LB says. Will it change each game though? If it stays the same, then should be no trouble for people to remember it.

I still think if the words came up on the south screen only, the away fans wouldn't realise we were reading it, and it would be great!

Not a fan of the second verse then?

Up in the morning early
March from the break of day
March til the evening shadows
Tell us it's time to stay
We're always moving on, my boys
So take your time from me
And we'll sing you a song as we march along
Of Sussex by the sea.

For we're the men of Sussex....etc.

You've also missed out the 4th verse:

Sometimes your feet are weary
sometimes the day is long
Sometimes he day is dreary
Sometimes the world goes wrong
But if you let your voices ring
Your cares will fly away
So I'll sing you a song as we march along
Of Sussex by the Sea

For we're the men of Sussex...etc

But I'd have to ban myself if I posted it here.

The five-verse score published in 1907 by Herman Darewski (inc Charles Sheard) is the earliest I know of, although the march was almost certainly composed a couple of years earlier. If anyone has an authenticated version that's even earlier, please let me know.
