I do think there are lot more important things for people to get all huffy about. It's just some words, on a screen. If you know the bloody words anyway then you don't need to look. If you never sing at the football, don't you don't need to look either. If you want to der der der, you still can. If you want to sing "win the cup", then sing it. It's not's rocket science and I really don't see why those people who want to do what they always have done are getting all het up. Personally, I think it's great that a section of fans want to celebrate our uniqueness by singing the county anthem.[/QUOTE

Is correct answer.

Good post, agree with all of that

So let me get this straight. People are getting upset – annoyed, even – about the club putting some words on a screen? Seriously?

Options:
1) Don't look at the screen during the song
2) Stay in the concourse finishing a pint while GOSBTS is being played
3) Carry on as you were, and realise that in a matter of moment those pesky words will be gone again.

Then enjoy the game, and ROAR the Albion to victory (for Sussex by the Sea...)

Did the fans of Cardiff ever sing it with a different set of lyrics or have they only ever used one version, whereas we have used a few (hence the need for a thread asking which version people would prefer after only a couple of hundred fans voted in favour of having the words on display in the first place (a long way from the majority of fans as they claim being in favour of this)

I don't know, as I've never asked them. Lord Bracknell went to school in Newport and posted on here that there were different versions of that song.

There are: there are at least two different versions that I know of and there could be more

Thanks, i didn't know that. I wonder if they already sang the version they use or like us, had their fans singing the various different versions and whether having the version on display has either got them using one version or whether they don't sing

I went to Cardiff away this season and thb i couldn't hear the Cardiff fans singing over the noise of the PA when Men of Harlech was on. Maybe if i had been amongst the Cardiff fans they might have sounded loud?

Should help with timings. I don't mind this, especially if Stand or Fall is included

i didnt mean they were playing sussex by sea and i meant we are copying derby because they put words to their song on their big screen

What? Are you sure? Why on earth would we put another club's words on our screens?

We already announce their attendance and ship in their ale...this going too far IMHO.

Not happy.

I've been in the US where they have their national anthem words on the screen FFS.

Posted this on the other thread, but GOSBTS is part of the fabric of our club, woven into our history; this is a great education for those who don't know the words to sing them.
It's also great to sing the proper words, and honour the young men, our age who died for our County.

Cardiff put the words to Men of Harlech on their big screen too.

Some Cardfiff fans don't sing the words and improvise with DER DER DER DER DER DER and what sounds like Men of Horlicks.

NSC regulars will know I am a massive fan of this.

Fascinated to see whether "they" get it right (words, images, volume, message). Past experience puts the probability at 50/50. Main thing is the start - getting it right can be an iterative process.

An unpopular key factor for me will be whether people can be weaned off clapping. The soldiers didn't clap and it will be infinitely better sung without clapping...

Idea great, let's hope they execute it properly.

I fear a dumming down of the proper song.

Stick to the original words and we can't go wrong. It could be brilliant.

The original words were sung at Albion matches before Norman Wisdom's version. I know it's a long time ago but I have a clear memory of it being sung when Albion briefly led Burnley (then Div. 1 champions) in the cup tie in 1961. Unfortunately the lead was short-lived so the singing abruptly ended. In those days many fans knew the words of at least the first verse.
Famously the 6-0 cup replay at Highbury versus Rotherham in 1960

Oh no, they are going to make us all stand and sing our anthem. I've heard that if you don't sing, you will be made to stand in a room with the Palace coach driver, and when he has performed his party piece, you will be made to clear it up with left over clackers from the play off game.

For christs sake, if you don't want to read the words, don't look at the screens. I've never heard such a moaning bunch of old women as there is on here. The club is trying to improve the atmosphere, and all they get is 'REAL fans' carping cos they think kids etc should know the words to a hundred year old Regimental march.
And, before you ask , I do know the words

Rev singing at the amex :lolol:

Rev actually going to the amex, :lolol:
