I know that it's a struggle for runs in this wicket but the point is that he's played every game - on some very flat wickets - and has an average of under 20 (and not hit a single 50 yet).

It would be different if he was on a bad run but he's been in the side for some years now and has an average of under 30.

I'm all for playing Academy players but it's not working out for Finch. Maybe it's time to give Rawlins a shot - or play Haines lower down the order

Rawlins got a pair in his last game but, before that, he scored two half-centuries and two forties in seven innings - that's scarcely dismal. Haines hasn't been great but did score a century a month ago

Elsewhere in the division, Jimmy Anderson (with Graham Onions) has absolutely destroyed Derbyshire.

Sir Jimmy's figures; 1st inn 17/7/18/5, 2nd inn 16/6/29/4. Nine wickets for 47 runs, at an economy rate of 1.4. What a bowler he still is.
