some of the comments about woods are a little harsh, agreed to some extent that he could have performed better in some games, and he needs to use his height to more effect, but the guy has something about him otherwise he would not be at WBA in the first place, some players shine more when they play at a higher standard and it may be that in the Championship he is more suited. I m not saying he comes as a main striker, but as a back up off the bench he may prove to be very effective.

Rubbish. I realise that I am not good enough to play in the Premier League, 5-a-side on a Weds night after work with my mates is about my level. However, if I had a contract at a Premier League club and was trying to break into the team, then I would believe that I was good enough to do it, or why would the club be paying me good money and investing time in coaching me? For anyone to suggest that as being 'deluded' shows them to either having very low self-confidence themselves, or to just be talking complete nonsense.

How many players have worked their way up from the lower leagues to the top level? Quite a few. What about DJ Campbell? Should he have thought (at 23, 4 years older than Wood) '"I play for Yeading, I must be shit, I better not get any ideas above my station", or should he have believed in himself, kept working, kept listening to the coaches, and kept having that self-confidence and belief that he was good enough to make it?

I would say that the fact he has just spent a season playing in the Premier League earning thousands and thousands of pounds a week would suggest that the latter option was the better one to take.

OK agreed...

However, my main point is that we should steer well clear of signing him...

We are a newly-promoted club in desperate need of at least one Championship-level striker... yes, Wood has played in our league, but with little success...
He was, IMHO, poor for us in L1... why does anyone think he will step up?
We can do MUCH better, even for a striker as cover on the bench...

He reminds me of Darius Henderson when he was here, if he's ever gonna make a real go of it he needs to be far more forcefull in the air and when challenging. For such a big lad he always struck me as being a bit wussy

Me too... he failed to use his natural height and strength...

Do you suggest we only have 2 strikers, who will play every game then?

Well according to you, because he is shit and is deluded that he can ever play for them.

No, I'm not saying that... and you know I'm not... we will have 4 strikers (I hope) and 2 will play more often then the other 2...

As for Wood, I'm saying we shouldn't sign him at all...

Wow I came back and read through the last 4 pages to just see two idiots hijacking a thread to argue because they have different opinions. Cool.

Well, it is a football forum... what did you expect? Pride and Prejudice!

Fair enough, but I don't think anyone is exactly jumping up and down at the prospect of signing him. But as our 4th striker he could do a decent enough job, he gives us a different option and could grow into a half decent player. I'm not sure anyone MUCH better is going to be happy being a back up striker at a Championship club.

My thought is we should sign him back on a loan basis, yes he wasn't impressive at Barnsley in his first Championship stint, but neither was Will Hoskins at Watford! It's possible for players to perform better at some clubs and worse at others for a myriad of reasons. We have a professional training set up and hopefully Wood will get better with decent coaching. If Gus gets him back that's fine by me.

Right okay. I cant normally be arsed to do this, but you have given me such a laugh this afternoon here goes.

I think the bulk of people on here are on my side, in the sense that they agree he is not the best striker option for us... although, to be fair, there are some who think he is good...
That's not what the argument has become about. I agree most won't want to have him back.

Your argument either way seems to be inconsistent, but it would be great if you stuck your neck out... do you want him back or not?
I dont need to stick my neck out. You need to wind yours in. My point is clear, if you can be bothered to read what is said, and not what you want to hear. To an earlier point, I said, and have repeated, so this is now the third time, so read carefully..... ready..... If neither were Brighton players, and I had to sign either Barnes or Wood, I would rather sign Wood. Got it. You you undertand that? That is different to you keep quoting me as I want to sign Wood. Its not inconsistent, its very very clear if you bother to read it. So hopefully thats third time lucky, although I doubt you will grasp it.

Try putting together a coherent argument on the Wood topic instead of failing to conduct a character assassination on me...
Don't try and act the little put upon post whos being bullied. Dont accuse someone of character assassination, when you have posted the following crap about Wood in the very same thread.

I find it astounding that he is so self-deluded that he thinks he is good enough for the Prem

Played at the World Cup for NZ... not fcuking Brazil... he is self-deluded... confidence is one thing, but he just needs to take a look at his performances and realise he is nowhere near West Brom's first team

I would like to think we have two far better players than the deluded Wood still to be signed

You also describe him more than once as UTTER UTTER GASH

You never know, you may have something worthwhile to say...
I really am speechless that you could post that after all you've said. You accussed me of "twisting thing" then you say You claim you KNOW that Barnsley sent him back to WBA, when in fact I think you'll find another poster was right when he said WBA recalled him. You then say Barnsely booting him out is "your stance" . Doesn't mean its fact mate.

You then went onto to hint everyone who wanted him to sign, and theres a few on here granted, wanted him to lead the line, when no one said anything of the sort.

You keep saying hes deluded and that he think he's better than BHA? But you dont even know him, and it appears you have somehow managed to make this opinion from the fact he wants to try and proved himself at WBA? If I need to explain the error in your thinking there to you, then really you're not worth discussing football with.

You hinted this from a source, although I'm not quite sure what your "source" has meant to have said to you, because you later seem to have come to the conclusion hes deluded yourself.... just because he want to try and prove himself at WBA.

Now if you have something worthwhile to say, say it. Its clear you are backing down on a lot of things you have said, because you have contridicted yourself time and time again on here, but I think you need to get a friend to read this thread, and then ask them to honestly give an opinion on how you have come over.

When you say

He DOES think he is better than he is... and he does think he is better than BHA (laughable)
you are saying like it is a fact. Its not. Its your opinion, reached judging by your own words, in one of the most laughable ways I've ever seen, as other have picked you up on.

The main problem with you B.W. is you are reading or hearing stuff, twisting it around whether or not intenionally or not, and then posting it as FACT.

You do not know Wood, so you cannot say if he is deluded. But you claim he is as a matter of fact.

So whilst most, including myself agree that Wood would not be first choice signing or even one of our first team strikers, I have found it very hard to find anyone who has agreed with your opinion of him. And on that subject, before you ask for them again, I don't care you dont think he's good in the air or he's slow or whatever else, because an opinion of someone, who has your views and spin on things, means nothing to me, other than to have a laugh at and put in their place.

But there is a big difference between being linked with, and actually signing other names. And most of those other names that we have being linked with (CMS etc) are not going to be signed to play 2nd fiddle to anyone. We are going to need back up strikers, and I cant see us getting anyone that much better than Wood for that role.

It is NOT completely irrelevant... rather, it is the best indication we have of what he will do in the Championship...

I don't think it's the best indication at all; it's an indication, but not necessarily the best. What's to say Barnsley didn't play a system that suited him?

Being a semi-regular at 17 for West Brom (who were ultimately promoted) in the Championship would be an indication, would it not?

... oh, that and we've seen him play poorly in L1, of course...

I too have seen him play poorly in League One. I've also seen him play well in League One; you, it would appear, haven't.

Thats a great point, one which I think someone on here is completely missing.

Because someone doesnt do well at one club, doesnt mean he wont at another. At Brighton we played to our striker strengths, maybe BArnsley didnt play in a way to suit Wood. Maybe when Bridcutt was on loan elsewhere, they didn't play to his style.

And where we are so lucky to have Gus Poyet. He is carefully putting together a side that plays to the strengths of the players in the sqaud. How many times have you heard the great one say, we'll sign a player because he's different to what we have. Wood is different in style to Barnes or Hoskins, so maybe thats why he's looking at him... if in fact he is.

We are not going to be able to sign four or five top class different style strikers. He'll sign one or two class strikers, and then the back up strikers will all be a different style to each other, but I doubt in the same class as the main two, whomever they turn out to be. The reason is simply we can't afford four or five top class strikers, and top class striker will not sit on a championship side bench!!

The more I think of it, the more I think Wood may be a decent signing, but if he was signed a main striker, then I agree it'll be disapointing, but not for one second do I think he will be signed as a main striker, or do I think anyone on here think he'll be a main striker. Which is why he probably won't want to sign.

ummm HE IS 19.

It takes one promotion and suddenly everyone loses sight of a quality youngster. He had a massive contribution us walking the league and would be a welcome addition.

'Woeful'? 'WOEFUL'?

Unbelievable.

Sorry, its not emotional, its reality..... HE WAS BOBBINS MATE,.... PURE BOBBINS.

You know what, from that epic, I conclude that you think Wood is a better bet than Barnes... you give NO explanation as to why, so I assume it is because you have a very twisted view of Barnes (our player)...

My opinion, which I know you don't care to hear, is that you are wrong regarding both Wood and Barnes, and I have explained why...

The other stuff, well, may I suggest that you are the one that comes across as someone who is:

(a) inconsistent
(b) can't argue their case
(c) resorts constantly to insults
(d) can't judge a player
(e) needs psychological help

Oh, and Barnsley didn't want Wood...

Meanwhile I will look forward to next season with Barnes making a great contribution to our season...

OK, well my expectation of our ability to sign better strikers over and above the 2 we have in the bag already is higher than yours... we shall see, I suppose...

First of all I really like your club and the way it is run. Also the new stadium is amazing. Just reading this topic and I am afraid to say that I am amazed at some of the views on Woodsy. For people to say that they dont want him permentely is a joke, do you really think you would have any chance at all of him signing permentely anyway? He is a very promising international player who can do great things, a loan would be lucky for you again I would suggest.

Hi mate. Welcome.

Upon his return from China, he was poo. Before that, there was a touch of Bambi on Ice about him, but at times he really did do well, despite what some are saying.

As for thinking we would have a chance of signing him, yes we could - no arguments - IF we wanted to. However, my personal feeling is that I doubt that there is the will within the club to spend what would be necessary. Not at the moment, anyway.
