Today the Womens team take on Huddersfield in the Womens FA Cup 5th round. The match will be broadcast on the Albions YouTube channel and you can view it here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjZomJU0914

Huddersfield won 8 of their 10 league games this season before the National League North (2 levels below the Womens Super League) was terminated because of covid. On paper we should win, but anything can happen in the cup!

UTA!

Sliding lots at Crawley.
It's still 1-0 to the Albion's after 23 mins.

A place in the FA Cup quarter finals awaits the winners.

2-0. Decent ball in from deep, well finished.

Shocking pitch - I suppose we've been spoiled with the standard in the top flight, but it doesn't really seem conducive to the sort of football that Powell wants them to play

Albion go 3-0 in front.
A shocking own goal by the Huddersfield keeper not made easy by the bar of soap she's trying to push over the bar.

Feel for the goalie there - ball must be very slippery. Shes done well a couple of times since including tipping the penalty over. Just found out Huddersfield not played since Christmas which isn't going to help them in this game

And thats how it ends - a good, professional performance by the Albion which takes us into the quarter finals! Match to be played at the end of ... September

Driving in to Brighton this morning I saw the official Huddersfield Town FC coach (the one with wheels, not the boss). So for the next half an hour I was trying to work out why. Now I know. But not played since December with the league cancelled, how could the club afford an overnight trip with hotel accommodation for what must be 30 people? What does getting knocked out in the 5th round earn them?

£750 prize money for every losing team in the 5th round.

As a 3rd tier side, they joined the competition in the 2nd round and thus earned £1,000, £1,250 and £2,000 for their wins in Rounds 2-4.

So a final total of £5,000 for 4 rounds played.

With top 2 tier teams entering at the 4th Round, the most the winning team from those tiers could earn would be a total of £39,000.

But that would include £25,000 for winning it.

Were Albion Women to emulate the men of 2019 and lose at the Semi-Final stage, they'd earn a total of £10,250.

That would include £1,250 for losing at the Semi-Final stage.

That’s shocking, teams must run at loss.
Hardly worth entering

So they lost but won £750. That wouldn't have paid for the overnight coach, let alone hotel and players wages. Was it worth it? Had they won it would have been a lot more, but even then would it all have been worth it?

FFS a that sums up our season...up and down in championship with the blokes team, and not the best girly whirly teams too.

I am mortified

Thank goodness your soft southern shandy drinking poofs were put to the sword by us manly tough Yorkshire cricketers.
