Death, well that's very f***ing harsh.

Yeah, she's committed a crime, she's 100% in the wrong. She said she didn't care but that was before she was given a death sentence which she was expecting 15 years.

I personally don't believe the death sentence should exist unless it's for murder IMO.

Or indeed at all. It's barbaric and there isn't a justice system in the world that's infallible.

The thing is, pushing drugs can lead to people's death too. The only reason I'm against the death penalty is because mistakes are made.

I don't know how I would feel if it happened to me but if I was facing over a decade in a jail in a country like that I'd rather they just took me outside and shot me there and then.

This sort of situation always puts me in a dilema about what to think. On the one hand, I am a firm believer in the old adage "if you can't do the time, don't do the crime", but then again, I am vehemently opposed to the death penalty.

Although I oppose the death penalty, being British shouldn't be an excuse for breaking the law in a foreign country. She broke the law and should be punished as an Indonesian would under the same circumstances.

If someone came to the UK and broke a law that carries a stricter punishment here than where they came from should they expect a more lenient sentence?

Generally speaking doing any sentance in a UK prison is a lenient sentance compared to the prison conditions criminals would experience in the vast majority of countries

If you were a foreigner from an impoverished country where is the deterrent in a few years in a British jail? I think many British people would rather our prisons were more like those in impoverished countries so that it was more of a deterrant for our own criminals.

Indonesia is notorious for its harsh punishments for drug related offences, just like most other Asian countries. She knew full well the law and the consequences of her action before she took the risk. I agree it's harsh, but that's the law.

Brighton factually.....
Not a great loss, anyway on the plus side we would save on the benifits she would claim after 15years in prison.

The reality is, you'll end up doing a decade on death row, then get shot. It's effectively a double sentence!

'Pushing' drugs? The vast majority of users take them without any coercion from others. Pushing makes it sound like you're forcing them on people.
