Wolves v Man U

He made eleven changes.

And played 11 professional footballers, being paid £1,000's of pounds a week, that he signed, therefore believing in their ability to get a result.

It can't be one rule for one team, and one for another, just because the later has a better squad, more money, etc. etc.

From their two games against Man U and Burnley, Wolves took 3 points. From their two games against Arsenal and Wolves Burnley took 1 point. What was so wrong with what McCarthy did in that context?

Let us not forget this rotation of his arguably worked, given they won a 6 pointer the next game.

Fair points, but its just not really in the SPIRIT of the game, is it ? Every manager has a duty to put a team out with the intention of winning every match, regardless of the opposition. 3 points is 3 points, whether its picked up aganist Man U, Chelsea or Hull. Its supposedly "the best League in the world", but its hardly that if some teams arn't even trying.

What if ALL the teams in the lower reaches of the FAPL decided to do a McCarthy against the big boys, and effectively write the game off so as to concentrate on their own mini-league near the bottom ? What a spectacle that would be eh ? Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea racking up cricket scores against Hull reserves, Wolves reserves and West Ham reserves. The win would be a foregone conclusion, the only question being how much of a boost they'd get to their GD.

What McCarthy did sucked the big one, and I only hope his style of trying to stay up doesn't start catching on, or the league will become a meaningless farce.

I'm with Easy on this, what McCarthy did was wrong and damaged the reputation and spirit of the EPL. I think he's learned his lesson and won't be making the same mistake again tomorrow.

And the best thing about it was the way in which he was so defensive that after the next game, he asked the interviewer "Well, aren't you going to ask me why I've made 9 changes for this game then?" clearly visibly wound up by the whole thing. No I don't think he is Mick, because it is quite clear that you just recalled your first choice team after accepting defeat before kick off in the previous game

The return fixture tomorrow then.
I'm surprised McCarthy hasn't already approached the FAPL to have the game annulled and the points sent straight to Old Trafford, being as its obviously a write-off for the Old Gold. After all, they've got Burnley next week to prepare for, which is a far more crucial game for them in the scheme of things.

With the fixture apparently having to be fulfilled though, I suppose it'll be another case of Mick putting out the kids and the ressies, taking the medicine, getting the game out of the way and carrying on from there.

that got a chortle, i see the rebunk of benevoelent endeavour has not gone amiss on thee....?

Stubborn old mule. Wonder why him and Keano didn't hit it off?

But McCarthy is not employed by the EPL, he's employed by Wolves and the way that the EPL is set up means that to finish in the bottom 3 is often a financial disaster. So if his actions do bring the EPL into disrepute, it's the EPL that have created the situation.

BTW I don't like McCarthy and I don't like what he did. I just think the way that football in England is now set up encouraged him to do it.

It's only allowed in the Carling Cup and that's if you are called Manchester Utd or Arsenal.
