I've just found a spare hdmi cable lying around the house and am considering hooking up the laptop, as mention on here somewhere recently the quality on the telly is never great tho.

I'd recommend sopcast. Download and install it if you haven't (it's not nasty), then copy the URL that wiziwig gives you and paste it into sopcast.
