Its stopped raining and the wind is picking up wich will help dry the pitch,and the forecast isnt that bad for tomorow,the problem maybe if the drains have overflowed,i reckon the game should go ahead IF there is no more heavy rain overnight. p.s its pissing down again now

all you do with covering the pitch is let all the water sit on top and then when you try to move it A) need help from pop eye and B) the water all just ends up on the pitch anyway meaning there is huge puddles of murky water on the pitch 2 or 3 hours ahead of kick off.
the only option is to let it drain or if it gets that bad which it isnt going too call it off. i will be there tomorrow but will NOT be wearing anything plastic or see through.

If the pitch is covered and there is water lying on it the groundstaff should be using those giant squeegees to move the water away.

Sussex CCC have/had something called 'The Whale' to mop up any surface water. Pretty effective it was too.
One time at The Goldstone, they let the Albion borrow it and it made the difference between a match being on and being called off. However, it went back to SCCC full of sand and grit.
They never let the Albion borrow it again.
They borrowed it in 1995 when we played Cardiff, the game was sponsored by Gulls Eye, but it was called off just before the gates were due to open.

Yep, but after that the club spent a lot of money on drainage. if they done the same again in the summer hopefully it will be okay. It really is chunking it down though.

This morning the rain had stopped, the water seemed to have subsided from the penalty box and centre circle, but still a bit visible.
The running track has a massive puddle by the disabled section, Mr Winterburn and his team will have their work cut out, but I dont think any more rain is forecast

It's currently chucking it down up here in benfield heights.
The Whale has been used at Withdean but it turned the pitch into an absolute mudbath!
Not sure it has actually. Brooms and mops were used to clear the pitch for the Southend game in 2001. The whale was last used at the Goldstone for games v Cardiff and Bristol Rovers in the mid 90s.
Regards the pitch being covered, it would not make much difference. Speaking with Steve Winterburn (an expert groundsman who knows about maintaining football pitches), he told me yesterday morning the covers would not be going on. They only hold the water on top of the pitch, making it difficult to remove them without flooding the pitch - and the drainage is able to cope with heavy rain. The covers are mainly to keep out frost - and that wasn't forecast last night, hence they did not go on.
Thats the game I was thinking of (Gary Hart last minute!). I'm sure when we turned up the pitch was just a brown mess and the reason given was the whale had been going up and down it. Obviously wrong though!
