Withdean planning application

You will probably know that the planning permission for Albion's present use of Withdean Stadium (plus the extra seats) has been voided on a technicality (because the city council's procedures were incorrect).

The football club has now applied for permission again. They have included use of Withdean up to 2008, the extra seats and other facilities, and allowance for matches on the first Saturday in December and three Sundays in each season. All of this is vital if the Albion are going to continue at their temporary home; without these permissions there is the possibility that the club could not fulfil its fixtures (including the last match of this season) and so be expelled from the Football League.

It is therefore essential that all supporters should make a representation to the city council on this matter. It doesn't matter where you live, but your opinion may carry greater weight if you live in Brighton & Hove. Therefore, I ask ALL supporters in the city please to make sure they do this.

It is now very simple to make a representation on a planning application on-line via the city council's website, and I have included details below. We will have pre-printed letters available at the Sunderland and Millwall matches at Withdean on the campaign/Supporters' Club tables. You can't miss the North Stand table; the one for the South Stand is to your right as you pass through the tunrstiles, by the programme stall and the toilet block. You will be able to sign them and leave them for us to deliver, or take them away with you to copy to gather more names and addresses.

If you wish to write your own letter, send it to Hamish Walke, Development Control, Brighton & Hove City Council, Hove Town Hall, Norton Road, Hove BN3 3BQ, being sure to quote Planning Application no. BH2005/00464/FP.

Thank you

Tim Carder
Chairman, BHA Supporters' Club

HOW TO MAKE A REPRESENTATION ON-LINE

1. Go to the city council's website at www.brighton-hove.gov.uk

2. In "Quick Links" on LHS, click "Planning"

3. In "In Planning" on RHS, click "Planning Register"

4. Accept the conditions and click "Continue"

5. Type "BH2005/00464/FP" into the Application Case Number, then scroll down and click on the first "Search" button

6. You should now see the club's planning application for Withdean Stadium.
Click on the "Details" button.

7. You should now see fuller details. Click on "Make a Comment".

8. Now complete the fields for your name, address and postcode etc. If you add an email address you will receive an automatic reply.
Under "Nature of Submission", make sure that you click the middle option "Inform the Authority that you do not object to the Planning Application".
Add any comments in the field below.
You might like to point out that the improvements proposed will greatly enhance the facilities offered at the arena, and leave a great permanent legacy for the benefit of the community when the club moves to its new home - hopefully at Falmer in 2007 or 2008. The measures envisaged will ensure that the impact on local residents is minimised. The Albion is a major part of the local economy. These new facilities, which include a new changing-room and lounge complex for the athletic clubs, will allow it to thrive and play an even larger part in the community. Permission to play on the first Saturday in December and on three Sundays each season is a minor variation on the previous planning permission which will allow the club to complete its scheduled fixtures without disadvantage or fear of expulsion. The club is an important part of the local community and needs this variation to allow it to function properly in its temporary home.

9. Click the "Submit" button. You will then get an acknowledgement window to confirm your submission.

Also done.

Although it's getting a bit tedious sending all the different letters / comments every season a number of times a season for various new niggles that crawl out of the woodwork. I propose we put in a planning application to have all Nimbys shot - that'll put an end to it !
