Wise quits Leeds

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I doubt Bates cares in the slightest. They will be promoted eventually and they will presumably get a large amount of cash for the capture of Wise. I very much doubt he is in this for the love of the game.

My Leeds sources report the following rumours

Bates will walk away from Leeds in the summer and sells to adrian pearson (presently ceo at deby - just bought by rich americans - but lifelong leeds fan witha failed bid already) , Bates then tries to oust Ashley from Newcastle and install Wise into hot seat..........

So £1.5m a year for what basically amounts to being a glorified scout, and he won't even have to live up north, he'll be based down south near his home in Bucknighamshire. No wonder Wise jumped at the chance. So they'll have Wise (Director of Football), Jeff Vetere (Technical Director) and Jimenez (new Vice Pres) all working behind the scenes on bringing in players, maybe Shearer there part-time coaching the forwards (what, so Keegan can't even cover THAT role himself ??), and we still don't know who Keegans number 2 will be yet, but that’s someone else to throw into the mixing pot when he arrives. Complete and utter HASH if you ask me. Talk about too many cooks, this Ashley fella must have more money than sense.

Its a truley mind-boggling salary for the nature of the role Wise has taken, and its not even as if he's got any extensive experience to draw upon. I'll grudgingly admit he has done a phenomenal job at Leeds, and Swindon were disappointed to lose him and Poyet as they'd really turned them round on the pitch as well. So his strengths seem to be in working closely with players on the training ground, organising a team and tactics, and generally managing the squad. All that will be totally left behind - he'll be bringing NONE of that to Newcastle.

Sure he's done well as a manager in identifying the players he wants to bring in, but the ones Newcastle are after will be on a different stratosphere to the ones Wise has pursued. I was amazed at the appointment in the first place, but as the detail of his actual role become apparent, its even more bizarre. And I say again - £1.5m A YEAR !!!! Only a handful of the very top Premiership managers get anything LIKE that kind of money, and he's picking it up as a scout !!

I just do not understand this game any more.

I don't know what all this 'shock' horror' stuff is about. This isn't odd. It's normal, in the abnormal world of Newcastle. Let's be clear - the Premiership is a basketcase, and Newcastle is the biggest basketcase of all. Everything in this makes sense. Chelsea under Bates were the biggest basketcase in English football until Ridsdale's Leeds took the baton. But even during Bates's and Ridsdale's reigns, Newcastle were constantly bubbling up in a strong second place. Now they're number 1, Wise is off there, and there's a rumour Bates will follow.

And why does everyone think that Dennis Wise is so good, anyway? They would have gone down last season without the ten points deduction. He took the team down. Amazing. This season, he had the straw man of 'boo hoo, they've taken 15pts away from us' to fight against. Unsurprisingly, they did very well - anyone who couldn't use that to get the fans and the players whipped up would have to be a complete moron. But once they had got themselves into touching distance of where they think they should be, the wheels come off. No 'enemy' to rail against, so no success. Shit club, shit manager. He'll be at home at Keegan's Newcastle.

the important part of that sentence is the bit "disappointed to lose him and Poyet"

since Poyet left leeds and Wise and bassett have been in sole charge they have stumbled, hiccupped and their form has hit a rocky patch.........

True.
Maybe he really is a useless little c unt then. In which case, its a great shame he's left Leeds. I am still hoping and praying for the wheels to come off again at Elland Road. I would SO enjoy them to fail again, maybe even in the Playoff Final. That would make my season, quite frankly.

Pearson's bid never failed previously, he never made one to buy the club.

There is a clause in the deal with KPMG from the summer about the sale date of the club.

We are moving to Leeds :(

A little over £1m from Newcastle, all paid upfront yesterday.

Oh, it won't really. I was under the impression we were leaving for Luxembourg and Leeds is a bit short of the mark.
