Have been suffering with excrutiating wisdom tooth pain the last couple of days. Ultimately i shall look at getting them taken out but does anyone know of any short term pain relief for now??

Ive tried Ibuprofen and corsodyl mouth wash but neither seem to be helping.

Cheers

ride with it-curl up on the bed in absolute agony, shout, swear, curse, smash a few things up in the house if you wish(not the wife),it may take hours,go and come back,go away again a few days later and come back again-your'll be a man my son-no pain no gain.or go up the Hospital.

You may become a man my son if the pain goes but if it does not you will be a quivering wreck!

You need Antibiotics

Get to to your dentist Monday am

Yep-actually this in 99% of cases works-i have even persuaded a dentist to prescribe 500mg ammoxilin 21 tablets or 7 day course to me for such eventuality's.

It depends on what is causing the pain if impacted wisdom teeth have allowed an infection to start, you could well have an abscess forming which can be fatal if not dealt with. Ice cold water can often relieve pain very short term (strange as that sounds). I would get down to the dentist first thing on Monday and get it looked at.

If you've got a bit of food caught in it/down the side of it, then try and remove it with floss and give the whole area a good sloosh with medicated mouthwash/Corsodyl. Sometimes this does the trick. If it's too far gone then you will need antibiotics from the dentist on Monday. Either way, a dab of oil of cloves helps deaden the pain (get from Boots/chemists) and also helps clear the infection.

You have my every sympathy. Had all four wisdom teeth taken out just this last Monday. Can't say I'm feeling the benefit just yet as still a little sore but would echo the points made thus far about having them out. Get it done. And quick. Especially of you got any impacted (as I had). Can cause you all sorts of untold trouble later on otherwise.
Do it. Just get them taken out. It's easy <ahem>.
Just make sure you have a general rather than local anesthetic. Can't even begin to imagine what it must be like seeing the dentist with one foot/knee jammed against your forehead trying to get some extra 'purchase' as he attempts to crowbar the stubborn little bu**er out of your mouth.
Ouch, ouch, ouch.
