Did you, by any chance in your first successful connection, disconnect from the internet?
Doing that might prevent you from being connected now, as broadband doesn't need disconnecting.

no, didnt think i needed to,

lap top finds connection ok but constantly says:

acquiring network address.

If you have any encryption setup, take it off and try connecting.
