Running Windows 8 now and find it pretty good .....until the updates then it was 2 phone calls to help desks and a system restore .....constantly stuck on 12 % during update then restarts and then goes back to 12% and round and round we go .....any one else had the pleasure:rant:

Somewhere over there...
One of the updates I tried to install would just come up with an error message, clicked on the link to tell me what it means and it couldn't find anything. I think it was for my graphics card so I just ended up downloading the latest driver from website.

Only other major problem I have had is the DVD drive wouldn't work, I ended up having to change something in the registry to make it work. iTunes now comes up with an error message every time it opens to tell me that the registry settings used by iTunes to import and burn CD's are missing and that I need to reinstall iTunes.
I reinstall iTunes and again my DVD drive doesn't work again. Changed registry again, message still comes up but still able to import CD's.

Was it an upgrade from Windows 7 or a clean install ?

I've been using Windows 8 for maybe 2 months now, and it's ok...I've had very few issues in general and I've started installing it on several of my laptops I've got for sale as it has it's good points & looks nice.

Mine keeps telling me that there is a driver problem with the DVD drive. Another something to sort out when I get time. I just wish they would finish inventing things before unleashing them on the public.

Installed then went back to W7, most unintuitive thing I've ever witnessed, they seem to have forgotten that 99% of people using PCs are doing so with a mouse.

My mum is having same issues on her Windows 8, exactly the same reaching 12%, restarting then back to 12% and so on and son. Must be an issue with whatever update it is trying to do. Now on a screen saying that it is reverting the changes.

Doesn't help that she's a total technophobe and only uses it for emails/tesco voucher/checking the lottery so she's been freaking out over it a bit!!
