Are any of them as undeserving as Peniston? To be fair they do this at any tournament, Roland Garros gives wildcards to low-ranked French players and so on
Another player getting a free ride based on being British. Like Burrage, she has a top opponent who will wipe the floor with her - but she's got a wonderful payday.Come on Heather!
Heather got to the 4th round last year and she is a Wimbledon champion. I'm pleased that she got a free ride.Another player getting a free ride based on being British. Like Burrage, she has a top opponent who will wipe the floor with her - but she's got a wonderful payday.
Katie Boulter a set and a break up is sensational.
Shouldn't have needed a Wildcard for this year then should she? But she did because of her ranking based on performances throughout the year. Getting dumped out in R1 will cost her a huge amount of ranking points. It's a shame the women players aren't making any real impression on the tour, outside of the UK grass court swing.Heather got to the 4th round last year and she is a Wimbledon champion. These rain delays have caused a few issues.Amateur hour. They decide to delay proceedings on Court 1 by 15 minutes to open the roof, as it has stopped raining. Cue a sharp downpour which prompted them to shut it again. Now it's stopped raining, they decide to open it again before the players come out to warm up.
On top of that, they are a day and a half behind so do they do the sensible thing and start play early on the outside courts, or dogmatically stick to the schedule?
She didn't get any ranking points for last year's tournament. Of course the biggest UK tournament should give out wildcards to UK players when they can. All the other tournaments do. Were there any former singles champions who wanted to play but didn't get a wildcard? No? Then quite rightly they have gone to the Brits.Shouldn't have needed a Wildcard for this year then should she? But she did because of her ranking based on performances throughout the year. Katie Boulter would potentially face defending Champion Elena Rybakina in round 3 which would be a problem, if she gets there.
Who pissed on your chips? Are any of them as undeserving as Peniston?
Jodie Burrage was totally outclassed today, another player very fortunate to be given a Wildcard and not have to qualify (or not) on her own merit.
That's a good point, I had forgotten that - blessing in disguise for her and the others, they're only gaining ranking points this Wimbledon. Burrage's ranking will get a lovely boost for getting to the 2nd round. Hopefully next year there will be 2/3/4 women players who qualify automatically without the need for so many Wildcard entries. She didn't get any ranking points for last year's tournament. It just frustrates me seeing players getting a free ride when there are players on the tour who are working much harder (putting in the travel to tournaments, etc) but aren't British so they don't get the Golden Tickets that players like Peniston (in particular) were given. Ultimately, they're not good enough and lose early so it makes no real impact but if I were just below the automatic qualification and had to go through the qualifiers and failed to make it, I'd be really angry other players are just gifted an entry due to nationality. It isn't fair.Who pissed on your chips?
Brits getting show courts and being blasted off the court. Murray and Corrie deserve one, the rest should be on outside courts…imoAre any of them as undeserving as Peniston?

For Eubanks or the South African Kiwi, sorry I mean British hopeful, who chose our flag and funding when it suited him/his career? So Cameron Norrie will be facing Chris Eubanks.
Let's hope for a knockout in 3.
