I don't think you're ALLOWED to sing it (as a reigning monarch).

But presumably you could sing the words of ANY of the following verses (given that the band just plays the tune once!)

This. It always makes me cringe. It's an awful anthem, and we're not even the only country that uses it (although at least Leichtenstein have the sense to sing words about their land rather than an individual).

Also, it's pretty pointless as GSTK is the British national anthem and Wales is very much part of Britain. I'm not sure if there's anything approaching the status of an English anthem, but GSTK definitely isn't it.

England has NO national anthem (as has been mentioned), has NO monarch, has NO government and has NO parliament and has NO leader.

On the other hand, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has ALL of these .

Land of hope and glory is just a song attached to the tune of one of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance marches............. V.popular in its time (Elgar HATED the words).

Singing it at internationals is possibly the last legacy from Don Revie's ill fated reign as england manager. he wanted his teamto come out at Wembley in a blaze of patriotic fervour. but, in 1977, we all thought that was a STUPID idea so it never really caught on.................... added to which England were dreadful.

I suspect their fans are used to it.

None of their starting squad yesterday were taffs. Three Scots, five Englishmen, an Icelander, an Irishman and a Frenchman (who got substituted by a Slovenian).

There is NO sense in which this game is an England v Wales encounter.

If there are any Welshmen on show on Wednesday, the likelihood is that it'll be Sam Vokes, wearing blue and white stripes.
