We did some work with the Visit Britain people and it seems that 8 million people (of the 40m each year) who would have gone abroad this year will be staying in the UK because of exchange rates in the EU/US, credit crunch and environmental reasons. So here's hopig for a great Summer.

apart from plugging can you advise on appropriate accomadation?

Do you want some holiday cottage recommendations? Or are you asking if the site does this?

On the site, holidaymakers leave reviews of places they have stayed. If you're thinking of renting a place you'll be able to look it up on MyCottageHoliday (eventually) and see what other people who stayed there thought about it.

We are adding a search function (working now in beta) so you can look up anything in the description or reviews - so if you wanted a cottage with fishing nearby you can type "fishing" into the search box and it will find mentions of that and list them. Sadly, it will also call up fishing villages etc, but it's quite a neat way to find somewhere that might suit you. Not recommendations, but useful?

Apart from the small operators, one company owns most of the recognised cottage companies. Cottage4you, Welcome Cottages, English Country Cottages are all owned by the same group. If you let me know where you fancy going I can recommend a couple of decent smaller booking companies as well.

UK cottages are getting booked early this year by the way - because so many people are staying in the UK, the popular destinations, mainly west country are already about a month ahead on bookings, so book soon. However, Wales, Scotland, East England all a bit slow on bookings - so might be more choice.

hope that helps

We go to Cornwall quite regularly with Cornish Country Cottages, I assumed they were independant as we'd seen the offices in Helston. Also no problem with running out of properties in Cornwall, most of the nicer harbour towns are now up to 75% holiday lets & second homes!

You won't run out of properties in the South West but the choice may not be so good. We are getting reports of really high booking levels starting last weekend. Bigger and top end cottages going first.

Looks nice. We stayed in somewhere similar near Lochinver. It's great if you really want to do nothing but we got a bit restless by the end of the week and left early to have a couple of nights in Oban. The best holday we had in Scotland was where we stayed somewhere different every night, Scotlands fine for touring but after a while the gloomy locals can begin to drag you down!

The Cuillin's are probably the most spectacular mountain range in the UK by the way.

Only for the last six years myself (a lowland Scot) and Mrs Vinylhead (south yorkshire) decided to spend our summer holidays in Britain and going somewhere sunny abroad at October half term and a city break at Spring half term.We do the day trips on our first week as we base ourselves with my family which is handy for visiting Edinburgh,Glasgow and the East Neuk of Fife, then the second week we spend in Skye. But an added extra this year -2 nights here to explore some of Perthshire. Lands of Loyal luxury Country House Hotel in Scotland.

Yes, going to Scotland in June (Skye and fort William) for 10 days... Because it's f***ing beautiful, and I love mountains.

This is what we're looking at - not exactly 18-30!! Apparently it's away from the loudness / english area!
