what do you think. will he still be considered a stand-in striker? hopefully not. i hope he will be a proper striker now. he has positional awarnes. a great header. strenth. and a wonderful shot! he has what it takes at the moment and if he is doing so well then why change it in my opinion. virgo top scorer!!! yay!!!!

what do you all think?

He's still a better defender than he is a striker, although he has been more than adequate so far. Bringing in a targetman will improve the squad enormously as we'll have options and strength in depth throughout the team

but virgo is class!!!! he is a target man. he has a great shot. he just needs to be matured into a striker slightly more then we have a new alan shearer lol!!!

It's a puzzle this. He frequently doesn't look comfortable building from the back, has problems finding his midfield sometimes and his long direct balls are often overhit. Yet he looks very comfortable up front with his back to goal, trapping the ball and laying off well, never mind his presence in the air. But it's a nice dilemma for the lad.

On that analysis there is no dilemma - he's a striker. But I'm still a little uneasy about it being a long-term solution

i at first felt the same about the long term thing but he really looks comfortable up there.

A lot of the team are looking better now that we are playing with a shape and tactics that we are more comfortable with. That would be the same with Virgo playing in defence, provided we had someone to fill his targetman role up front.

think he will stay there untill we bring in a striker, however with out really seeing him does he have the movement of a striker?

Yes, it's much better than you would think. He has great energy and he pulls defenders all over the place.

Very much so - he's also not scared to chase down every ball as well. It's great to have a big lad up front who can control the ball as well - unlike Iwelumo!!!!

MM will still look to bring in another striker in the next couple of weeks as we have no game next Saturday.

At least Virgo was willing to play out of position to solve a striker shortage and did'nt complain - unlike Dyer at Newcastle.

We may have been a bit fortunate today but who cares. Any striker would have been pleased with Virg's finish, and I for one see this as a bonus 3 points which I did'nt expect.

With one or two more players back from injury and possibly a new striker in the next fortnight I'm certainly more optimistic than I was.

Well done today lads - and for those who went - you completely out sung Leicester. I'm going for a beer

McGhee said on Sky that he still sees him as a central defender. But his control when he scored the goal today was excellent. By the way, who played the through pass? The Preston defence hated playing against him, even though they were all over six feet tall.

The very reason I see no need for us to go splashing cash we don't really have when we have a striker who can do the buissness all ready on contract. Virgo is a striker now! he can, like dublin, play in both positions!
