[Football] Will Potter succeed at Chelsea?

It’s so much different to what he’s built here and at other clubs he’s managed, he’s going to be going into a dressing room of egos and world class players, how will he deal with that?

So will he succeed or not? Poll to follow.

Bit of success then sacked, it is the Chelsea way. Potters methods take time and I am not sure he will be given that

I doubt he will be given time but he will be given huge amounts of money. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

Assuming he has got a 4/5 year contract why would he care if he got sacked in 12 months? The compo would set him up so he never had to work again.

Sacked in a year after not being given the time despite Chelsea's old bollocks that they have a long term project. The sacking will follow a period of stagnation that starts with Chelsea losing to Brighton & Hove Albion for the second time this season in April 22 and will happen just after a 5-0 drubbing at our hands in September 23.

Yet Graham has, seemingly, taken it too... whether he'd only take it on 1 day of the year is irrelevant... he's taken it and done so very quickly, rashly even... I'm sure you're even a little surprised by the speed and willingness to jump ship... I always thought he shared the dream of disrupting the top six with an unfashionable little south coast club... I'm mystified that now we're so close, that this is the moment he chooses to walk away... I can only conclude he feels we've been lucky and will fall away and this is his only chance, which is strange logic for a man with a masters in emotional intelligence - on the face it, considering all the evidence, this isn't the right club (Chelsea) in terms of its recent history... I find it odd, and can only conclude that raw ambition has clouded his judgement, which is the same rashness and impatience Gus displayed during his infamous post Palace debacle TV interview.

Like I say, he's gone... time to move on.

Some great memories and results, he'll be remembered fondly I'm sure... but the club must back itself not to wallow and go one better in terms of the next pivotal appointment.

He didn't have one single bad season as a manager. Never sacked, always improving.

If they give him time, he will succeed. But as for how much time he'll get... it is anyones guess really. Abramovich is gone.

I thought Potter was a man of principle, but he has taken his 30 pieces of silver and scuttled off.
He obviously doesn't dare about us, so why should I care about him.

I think it all depends upon the first few months.

If the players buy into him, results will be good so the board and fans will be happy. That buys him the time for his methods to bear fruit, meaning (given the quality of player at his disposal) excellent results and success.

If the players don't take to him (and winning over the next level egos won't be easy), he'll be toast VERY quickly.

For me, it's either a roaring success, or gone in 6 months or less.


My prediction is the latter, but in that scenario he'll have few regrets thanks to a massive payoff and plenty of job offers from sensible clubs that wouldn't hold being hounded out of a basket case club against him.

Well yes, he's taken the money in spite of the obvious risk that he's being sold a dream.. that a club like Chelsea will not be able to deliver on... you know, the two year 'plan' - which we all know will turn into a two week plan if results go south.

Again, he's bypassed his emotional intelligence logic processor and has taken a huge pay rise, CL football... it's Cucu all over again, no better, no different... I don't doubt he been assured as to the plan, but anyone stepping back from this would think hmmmmm can I trust these guys ? Sure he'll be well off even if it does turn sour, but I doubt that's in his thinking tbh... He's doubtless sure he can succeed, BUT he needs time and that is something top four football doesn't allow for.

Hey ho either way, it's irrelevant to us... we need to move on and quickly.

I know it's the obvious answer and not an option on the poll, but he'll succeed if he lasts longer then 18 months

All his previous jobs he has been battling the odds to succeed, and has done over time. This time he has a squad that is 2nd or 3rd in the country on talent in the squad, so even finishing 4th is a bit shit. He won't get sacked for a 4th placed finish this season, but he might do next season, if the owner thinks he is underachieving to the squads potential.
If he gets all the players on board, and I think he will, he will be giving City a run for their money. I may have to move out of Crawley, the Chelsea fans are going to be ****ing unbearable.

Couldn’t care less either way. No longer part of our club he can get to ****, same as Bissouma and Cucurella. I love them when they’re ours but once they’re gone I’ve absolutely no interest in how they do. I’m not remotely disappointed that both Marc and Yves are doing terribly for their new employers.

Since 2007, no Chelsea manager has survived for 3 years. The new American owner does not seem any less trigger happy than Roman's regime before. I don't see this lasting long for Potter, who has taken a big gamble to give up a long contract at Brighton to go to the most volatile and insecure club of all for a manager.

It’s got nothing to do with being sour, it’s about my attachment to the club I support and those within it. Why would I care about a Chelsea manager or a Spurs midfielder.
