I am a tory voter CAM , but I am disillusioned with cameron , i would rather they had stuck to tory principles and let labour form a coalition with the lib dems, they would have walked any subsequent election, but cameron has shown himself to be a bit of an empty vessel with no real convictions, give me hague or david davis any day, that said , i'd rather saw my own feet off than vote for labour .

Tories have principles???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Yeah, right. Oxford and Cambridge have been home to all kinds of buffoonery for centuries.

like this

Contributions to the advancement of scienceMany of the most important scientific discoveries and revolutions were made by Cambridge alumni. These include:

Understanding the scientific method, by Francis Bacon
The laws of motion and the development of calculus, by Sir Isaac Newton
The development of thermodynamics, by Lord Kelvin
The discovery of the electron, by J. J. Thomson
The splitting of the atom, by Ernest Rutherford and of the nucleus by Sir John Cockcroft and Ernest Walton
The unification of electromagnetism, by James Clerk Maxwell
The discovery of hydrogen, by Henry Cavendish
Theory of Evolution by natural selection, by Charles Darwin
Mathematical synthesis of Darwinian selection with Mendelian genetics, by Ronald Fisher
The Turing machine, a basic model for computation, by Alan Turing
The structure of DNA, by Rosalind Franklin, Francis Crick, James D. Watson and Maurice Wilkins
Pioneering quantum mechanics, by Paul Dirac and string theory, by Michael Green

all very silly I think you'll agree

Well it's been a massive coup from the start then. London is Labour. Boris isn't.

You have to look at where the votes for each candidate come from. Ken getting the centre, Boris getting the outside.

My analysis is this really. People voted Ken into to piss his party own off and people have done the same with Boris. Ken has had his day anyway.

Don't under estimate the perceived friction between Dave and Boris that has helped him out.

The showbiz element works too though. If Theo Paphitis or Alan Sugar ran, they would win hands down.

Stop thinking of the London Mayor thing as a mini national election. It isn't at all, it's very much focused on London.

I take it you don't live here.

So I'm surprised you consider London to be Labour. It is obviously is round here, but the Boris Vote comes from the outside.

I think what's very very clear is that the core Tory vote want him as PM. Wouldn't be at surprised to see him as Leader of the Opposition after the next election, or as PM with the Libs again.

Much closer than thought but Boris will edge it.

Dave and Gideon officially sh***ting themselves this evening.

An electable Conservative, now there is a thing. With the worlds eyes on London as well.

really dont buy in to this Boris Vs Cameron thing, firstly because they do seem to be OK with other bigging the other up and secondly because i think Boris knows his limits. he revels in his buffoon image, all that no 10 business seems to be jolly tiresome and labourious.

Osborne on the other hand might be worried, mainly because he's just lost any credibilty with his budget of errors.

I'd just like to say, its a joy to read clapham_gull and beorhthelm on threads such as these.

There are a few others, but you both stand out. Keep it up!

Couldn't be arsed to vote in the end. I'll start again when there is a credible candidate. All Boris has done in introduce Kens stuff.

Surprised though has Ken has got so close. I lost faith over his support for Lee Jasper to be honest. Anyway, I'm actually glad Boris has won (looks that way) - puts the heat on Number 10. Can't underestimate how Boris winning undermines Dave and Gideon. Especially as they have done so badly elsewhere.

This is a clear indication that the slight majority of Londoners lean towards the Conservatives at the moment, but have a trouble with the leadership. Interesting times ahead.

In London village.

Very narrow win for Johnson in the end. I suspect in the long run Cameron should be more worried by the threat to his leadership from Johnson if he loses the next General Election than Labour should be about it's standing in an election in which it did very well overall.
