And I distinctly remember thinking this a number of years ago walking up to Fratton park for a league match and dodging a hail of pint glasses popping on the road in front of me that were being luzzed from the railway and rifle club. And I still thought this just a charming gentleman with a black eye and torn t shirt punched me in the back of the head. Gawd bless em, fair makes your heart swell with pride

I think you're getting a TOUCH carried away now, tbh. Nobody has ever claimed that PFC are the 'greatest football club'. The are clearly pretty special (and in NO WAY in any danger of relegation out of the football league) but they are some way short of greatness as a club.

This of course, only serves to make the UNDYING DEVOTION of their fans that bit more laudable. They truly ARE the greatest fans in the world.

Maybe because for years they lived beyond their means buying success they couldn't afford, playing in a league they couldn't afford and paying (occasionally) for players they couldn't afford.

Even now, it's frightening how many of them do not realise their club's predicament. I wonder when the penny will drop. A few seasons kicking about in the lower reaches of the leagues or better still below should sort that out.
