edit: beaten to it!

I'm intrigued to see how the authorities play this one - it seems to me that they almost can't win. Refuse Chanrai and the club folds. Accept Chanrai and the PL parachute payments go straight into his pocket and once he has finished asset stripping................ the club folds.

Not sure they even have grounds to refuse him as under their rules it is the club to determine unless there are relevant prior criminal convictions (and I don't know aof any). They could say no - go to court - and he ends up in charge anyway or just accept the club are happy and be culpable in watching the club go to hell and back in a handbasket!

Edna mentioned this in another thread, and I thought it deserved to be mentioned here, to draw the right level of response.

Of more interest in that article[*] is the fact that Lower League Pompey have apparently offered a two year contract to a former Man City player (who logically will be on decent wages). They're still in administration, surely, and have little sign of that situation changing imminently, so how on earth are they even offering the cashiers in the club shop a new contract, let alone ex Premier League footballers?

Cannot see the problem if he is at Portsmouth at the moment and is likely to stay there. From the post I thought that perhaps they were after signing one of the released players from City like Owen Hargreaves

Ah yes, I should add that I didn't realise he'd been binned by City a year ago after getting a prison sentence for giving some bloke a shoeing outside a casino. So he's probably fairly cheap, in a "damaged goods" sort of way. But may have found the ideal city to reside in, if that's his idea of a laugh.

Still a tad surprising that Lower League Pompey are in a position to offer anyone a contract though.

They're probably not, but they don't tend to let small details like this get in the way of them doing it anyway.

I think that this has been mentioned before but where do the the FA and FL sit in all of this as they are virtually condoning Portsmouth and the manner in which they operate and go into administration at the drop of a hat.

Well unless you're going to just straight up boot them out of the league you probably have to accept they need at least some footballers. It's Kelvin Etuhu, a former youth player who was there for years before City were rich and isn't anything special, not Yaya Toure.

Good point.

But on balance I'd still prefer to just straight up boot them out of the league I think.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that. Although then there would be no chance of anyone getting what they're owed, rather than the chance, however small, they have at the moment of getting even some of it.

BBC News - despite Portsmouth tax office closure

'No job losses' despite Portsmouth tax office closure

Jobs losses will be avoided in Portsmouth despite the announcement that a tax office is to close, HM Revenue & Customs has said.

Wingfield House, in Commercial Road, will close by 31 March 2015 following the government's Spending Review.

The 499 workers will be transferred to Lynx House in Cosham without the need for redundancies, HMRC said.

But the Public and Commercial Services union says it fears not all staff can be transferred.

In the Spending Review in 2010, it was announced that 10,000 HMRC posts would go across the UK by 2014/2015.

The department now says 2,500 posts will be lost each year due to natural wastage and there will be no redundancies.

Regarding the Portsmouth decision, a spokeswoman said: "Today's announcement is about closing office accommodation, it is not about redundancies."
'People not buildings'

But Lorna Merry, deputy president of the HMRC group of the PCS, said: "We believe it's not possible for 499 people, that are currently at Wingfield House to be transferred to Lynx House, without a significant amount of job losses.

"HMRC say they say can achieve this by natural wastage but we are yet to be convinced. If they can do it, that would be acceptable, as our concern is people not buildings."

In a statement, HRMC said: "Wingfield House is the only building in Hampshire, Dorset and Isle of Wight that we propose to vacate in 2014/15.

"The only other office affected by these proposals is Holland House in Bournemouth, where the plan is to reduce the amount of office space required at that location, but not to vacate it."

The inquiry centre at Wingfield House is currently open two days a week while the centre at Lynx House is open five days a week.

Surely he won't pass the fit and proper test.

A precedent has already been set by allowing it the first time , the FL cannot disqualify him on the grounds he was a director when the club went into administration as the requirements are being a director of a club that goes into administration TWICE or more.

One poster on the 'Vital Pompey Forum' even talking about a third administration should they survive this call.

No end to the disregard for absolutely everything !
