So, will they avoid liquidation and screw their creditors fpr 99p in the pound. Again. Or will they die this time?

Think the Administrator is just doing a bit of scaremongering.
They did that last time. In my memory (probably totally wrong) they were saying they'd be liquidated in the next couple of days unless a deal was done, and so it was. But it seems different this time. They have nothing to offer a buyer.

It's football though. It's not like other businesses. There's always some mug willing to step in.

I'm sure it's yet more scaremongering designed to attract buyers. Personally I can't believe their cheek in complaining that they haven't received the parachute payments they were due. Er...quite a lot of people haven't received payments they were due, Pompey, not so worried about that, are you?

And the administrator is a bit more clued-up this time round

That's exactly it. I don't wish to see ANY football club go out of business and it just seems to me that Pompey are big enough that some MUG will step in at the last minute to give them a lifeline.

It isn't as if they don't have he fanbase to make money from, longer term.

May very well mean they have to spend a few years down in the lower leagues, as we know all too well, before they get back to where they should be, but I just can't imagine they'll fold completely as has been threatened so many times before.

I wouldn't invest in them, but then I didn't vote Tory and yet those mugs got into power. There are always people dumb enough to make decisions like this

But they could do that from scratch, starting in the conference or close to it.

are they not allowed to forfeit the rest of the season? instead of folding, they could forfeit the remaining games, sealing their relegation but they could rebuild and restructure still as Portsmouth.. obviously they would have to rid of all of their players and start again in the summer.

is that not allowed?

You know its serious when you begin to feel sorry for Pompey, A club I have never had had the slightest affection for! i think they are a dead dog lying in the gutter. They have been badly abused by previous owners who are draining every last penny out of the club and the term 'fit and proper' is an absolute joke. The fans are the ones I feel sorry for, they don't deserve what is happening to their club. I think they will go out of business and reform along the lines Wimbledon AFC and in the long term it would be a blessing in disguise to be free of their current situation. I look back on the history of our club over the last 15 yrs and thank god that we had the likes of Dick Knight, Norman Cook and Tony Bloom steering our club through very choppy waters.

They'd still have the debt though. Some creditors could possibly agree to just write off what they are owed but then what league would you put Portsmouth in? If they fail to complete a season are they still a football club?

well it would give them more time to clear out and cut expenses, release all players that they can't afford, start again in league 1 or league 2 with a point deduction and force them to spend within their means with a proportion of income going to creditors. going bust won't mean their creditors get paid back, if they continue to function even at a very low level they can pay people back, albiet slowly.

its not what i want to happen, by all means i want to see pompey disappear they are a cancer on the game, but are there not other options than either find a buyer or go bust...

I think they will be ok for the rest of the season. But why didn't they sell some of the players in January? Must be better to get relegated than to go bust. It looks like they now might get relegated then go bust. Really don't understand why they didn't sell and reduce the outgoings.

I agree that there could be a lot of ways for a club to, in theory, get over the mess they are in but with so many clubs in debt and struggling you need to have some lines drawn in the sand because owners and board members will exploit lax rules to make sure they get their money.

I think the problem is too many owners actually think they are making a business investment when they get into football and that their money is protected. That and some clubs seem to think they don't need to give the taxman his money and just keep it for themselves instead.

Buyers should need to prove they have enough liquid assets to cover any current debts, be able to afford to write off any current and future investments in the club and not be concerned with taking any money out of the club in any way shape or form, welcome to football new owners :)

If they forfeit the rest of the season arent their results up to now void as well? What would that do to the current table?
