Way out west
His first game for us was away at Exeter...one of my favourite away games...during the first half they were attacking the goal in front of us and he came back to defend a corner. I shouted out "Hey Paul, welcome to Brighton!"...he smiled back and gave a thumbs up...agree with the above comments about him being our best loan signing, was as committed playing for us as he was with any of the teams he played for during his career. I certainly hope he can have as successful a managerial career, after tomorrow of course, as many players with an Albion association. If I were there tomorrow I would be shouting "Welcome back!" before joining in the round of applause.

And not forgetting that he made Adi Akinbiyi look good too!

When you consider the transfer fees and clubs these two later played for, we had quite a forward line.

I was a ball-boy the season he was with us on loan for a bit at The Goldstone. That hatrick against Newcastle was one of my first massive buzzes from football, that made me the smittem fan I am today. (There were alot that season too) Mid week under floodlights i think?
I'll stand up for him just for that.

Yep I certainly would be if I was there. His goal v Plymouth typified his playing time with us, guile, determination and obvious ability.

Think if it hadn't been for Ian Wright and Alan Smith he would have had more than a bit part to play at Arsenal.

Top Man.

Before my time but I'm not going to Boo and will politely applaud any former player/manager that isn't a prick!

Am fairly indifferent to be honest. He was a good little player for us at a fairly crap time.

But it was so long ago, I can't actually be arsed to make a big thing out of it. Polite applause perhaps, no more. It's not like he played at Withdean or scored any really critical goals in the grand scheme of things.

Knowing his reputation, we'll probably all be hating his whiny Scottish guts by the final whistle anyway, so I reserve the right to remain apathetic towards him while you all kiss his arse :lolol:

That is a great post. As above.

Not old enough to remember this fella on loan for us (i was only 5) but saw a large part of his career as my love for this beautiful game coincided when he was playing at his peak!

The point im trying to make is the bloke was an absolute nuisance to opposing fans always getting stick for his attitude and giving some back but everytime he's played against us he's been good as gold!

I'm not gonna clap, Russell Slade is the only opposing manager i would clap for from this league!

The only League One managers I personally feel any warmth towards would be Danny Wilson- and even that is starting to fade a bit as we've seen him so many times, and Russell Slade, a thoroughly decent man who we all wanted to succeed but for whom it didn't quite work out. But I still wish him well.

The rest are a combination of nobodies and complete twunts as far as I recall.

Oh, and perhaps Barry Fry if he ever decided to take a walk down the touchline to keep Gary Johnson company. But only because he's a lower league legend and always makes me chuckle.

Dickov ? I was at his debut at Orient on loan from Arsenal when we dropped out of div 2 now the championship. Packed BHA terrace, 3-3 Dickov and Paul Moulden. The days when 3/4K on a London away game was expected and palace another all bigger story. He is a manager? Time flies

Don't mean to be a pedant but you're confusing Paul Dickov with Paul Moulden who played upfront with Cotterill in that opening day of the season 3-2 defeat at Brisbane Road. You're right about the away end being packed though.

I don't think Dickov played for us against Newcastle. You're getting confused with Bryan Wade. Different seasons and different divisions.

I think he was only with us for a month but made quite and impact, he definetely scored some goals. Wasn't it Liam Brady who bought him in on loan when he played for Arsenal? I will applaud.

It certainly does feel like a good few life time ago, when he was wearing the strips.

Ditto what the Caveman said above

Absolutely quality when he was with us (1991?) Whatever, a long time ago!

Always remember the midweek night game against Plymouth, they were near the top, brought bloody loads and Dickov destroyed them and scored a fantastic goal away at the South Stand

Deserves a good reception, one of the better Arsenal players that our supposed 'special relationship' turned up

Remember the game - wasn't his cracking goal in front of the North Stand though? Perhaps he got both that night...

That was on my birthday in 1994 and we won 2-1, I thought Dickov scored his cracking goal in front of the North Stand?
