Will England fans really sing the French national anthem tomorrow?

No problems at all with the French national anthem, no problems with France for that matter. Lovely place. But if anyone was going to suggest we sang some derivative old tripe written by an over-rated and deeply unpleasant pop singer during his 'pimply 14-year-old' period then I most certainly would have an issue.

As would I, sadly it was the first song that came to mind that would seem appropriate (Mambo No.5 was the actual first one).

My point was that we as a country are not liked by most in Europe as it is and I personally don't think most if not all would give to shites if we lost lives here.
I personally don't think the British public should sing the French national anthem or any other national anthem come to think of it.
National anthems are to be sung by your nationals and nobody else full stop...Singing the French anthem should never have been mentioned as you could do a thousand other things instead.

Really? They might dislike us as a general nation (if indeed they dislike us at all) but I imagine most people can remove their feelings towards a country as a whole when something happens to the people in it.

As for Anthem, think we'll have to agree to disagree old chap.

Yes I would. Like I complimented the Palace player when it was thought he had helped to treat one of the wounded in Paris, now seems it may have been mistaken identity. I can be a bit of a throwback to the bad/good (take your pick there) old days of football, but some things are so much bigger than imaginary rivalries.

Togetherness can be done in many ways,but singing their national anthem is just bloody ridiculous.

Simples...don't sing it then. When thousands of people sing or la la la their way through it, go no have shit, or a pee, or make. Coffee, or a tea, or do the washing up....

(1) The original idea was suggested by numerous British/ English people, which rather pisses on your suggestion (hope?) that nobody will participate.

(2) Presumably you'd rather home fans belted out "If it wasn't for the English you'd be Krauts" instead.

Can you honestly not see, in a situation like last Friday's, why people in the UK (and elsewhere) might suddenly find themselves feeling a little closer to those who've suffered? How tragedy often makes us realise what we have in common as human beings, rather than what divides us? I believe, if the situation were reversed, and England were playing in Paris after such a catastrophe in London, just as many French people would be reaching out to offer sympathy, and to show solidarity in the face of such horror. France and Germany have plenty of history, yet I saw Berliners standing to respect a minute's silence today.

For what it's worth, God Save The Queen- in my opinion- is an absolute dirge compared to La Marseillaise (one of the world's classic national anthems), and it wouldn't seem nearly so appropriate under the circumstances.

Give over....The French would be in the top two of countries we would dislike if a poll appeared.

Don't get me wrong, I will rip the pixx out of the garlic crunchers non stop if given the chance(only dropped once rifles etc), I have worked for a French company and had to travel up and down the A7/A8 motorways on pointless errands cos the lazy basxxrds will not do it themselves. I work with a Parisienne and constantly remind him what an arrogant sxxt he can be. But right now I will stand alongside them and sing with all my heart for the values that we do share.

a minutes silence is sufficient, MUMBLING/HUMMING THROUGH ANOTHER NATIONAL ANTHEM SEEMS A BIT CHEESY
