I know to little about Cummins to have an opinion about him as a person. What I do know is he hasnt murdered anybody, hasnt gone on holiday or visited friends. All he has done is made a decision as to where best place for his son to be if had virus and had to enter hospital. I and many more would have done same

If you can’t understand what he was admitting to having done wrong, I doubt anybody could explain it to you in words you would understand.

You can’t abstract Cummings as just a bloke taking his kid and family somewhere. This is someone with great power at the heart of government making rules and decisions that effect us all. That is the context. We obeyed and trusted the government for the most part, gave up our freedoms at great cost for many people. The issue isn’t what Cummings did, it is the actions of someone in authority, in power, holding responsibility.

Come on guys who is more guilty in breaking the rules?

Cummings or this bunch?

Rules don't apply to Cummings, so why should they bother?

I for one will not accept any more restrictions put on me by this Government in the future. I've had enough.

Be careful they don't do common sense, unfortunately.
They have one mission to sink the tories, it' sad they can't pull together in what has been a worldwide disaster.
I am genuinely saddened by it all.
Time to get off here, I thought there maybe some understanding.
I only hope they never get in a situation where they need to be given the benefit of the doubt.

When will it get through your seemingly thick skull that this has nothing to do with the Tory's or Brexit?

I voted for both.

I will not be taken for a fool by Boris or his nasty lying little sidekick any longer.

The driving 60 miles to a beauty spot to 'check his eyesight' is a massive lie. Forgot the rest of that press conference and about protecting his family yadda yadda. A man in his position has broke the lockdown rules and should go. For that action alone you could say:
A) why drive for so long Dominic to test your eyesight? You don't need to drive 60 miles and 1-1.5 hours to check this.
B) Don't get in a ****ing car and drive with others if you have trouble seeing. You are endangering yourself, other car users and pedestrians.
C) Don't drive with your wife in the car or your 4 year old child. He could have stayed with that niece at the very worst.
D) you are driving to a beauty spot/tourist sight. This was not allowed at this time in lockdown.
E) This can't be proven but is is worth noting that you are driving to this tourist destination on your Wife's birthday?
F) Your wife can drive!!

He is an arrogant liar. Respected him for fronting it up but he really doesn't care about others. He's a maniac he'll bent on pushing through his reforms at any cost. In terms of caring about his family - why is he keeping this job?? I've changed jobs for my family not for these reasons or because I wanted to but because I wasn't able to spend time with them.

The castle trip is such a lie it's insulting and he's playing most of us for fools but he's an intelligent bloke and he knows he'll survive.

Sorry to repeat the point, but if and his wife are so clear what they did was ok - why was so much effort spent in covering it up ?

All excellent points. Then, to top it all, they decide to do the effing thing in the rose garden. They must be laughing their heads off!! And all the poodles in the Cabinet diligently tweet how marvellous it was, how everything's been cleared up, and how we need to move on. We are being royally screwed. And - at the end of the day - it shows that Dominic Cummings keeping his job is more important than saving lives. Because now we all know that we can just disobey the rules for any excuse we happen to make up.

You can be sanctimonious and try to take the moral high ground all you want. You would be the first on here on the attack if this happened to Labour while they were in power. And the right wing media would be far worse than anything Cummings is facing.

The hypocrisy of the right wing is shocking. It's fine to make up lies about Corbyn, Starmer etc. But when the same papers turn on a Brexit campaigner/Tory, suddenly they are disgusted

Quite clever, I thought, especially saying people needed to make up their own minds on this.
But by phrasing it that way, he's inferring that it's a fait accompli. The subtext is: it's done, make up your mind on it, and move on.
On the face of it I agree, that seems like a useful little 'this discussion is over' attempt.

However, the journalists should accept that for today, look at the public reactions tonight/tomorrow (by usual polling methods) and then go back tomorrow and say 'Mr Johnson, you said the public should make up their own minds. Well they have, and they've decided his excuses hold no water, and he should resign' etc etc.

Unless direct evidence is found that Cumming made other trips to Durham (April 19th / May 10th, etc) he'll get away with this - as he has put together a story, whilst full of holes, will stand up.
I disagree. His story about going up north where their could be support for his child is full of holes, but his story about driving for over and hour, to test his ability to drive, whilst his wife and child were in the car, does not stand up at all. It's not just full of holes, it's complete BS.

And why choose to go on the very Easter Sunday that cabinet ministers implored us to be extra good in staying at home. If he had waited a couple of days, then he probably wouldn't haven't been spotted. And that's the nub isn't it - he's only admitted to going to Barnard Castle because the witness was credible and had evidence to back up the sighting. Otherwise he would just have denied it.

Poor bloke though, you have to feel a bit sorry for him - every time he went out or stopped the car, even on a roadside just to let his son out for a pee - he was spotted by someone!

Yes - you're right. I think what I meant by 'will stand up' was that there was no likelihood of evidence to contradict it. That is - how would you actually prove it's complete BS? We all know it is, but you couldn't prove it. Unless there's something like a Birthday card trip voucher or something!!

Saying he drove to the castle to see if he was ok to drive was a lie.

I miss your unequivocality so it's time I un-ignored you.

And....exhale.
