I can't imagine the mess the Tories pants would be in if Harry Kane drove to Durham.

The comment by the Attorney General mentions good parents (as opposed to bad parents).
That has riled many.

Not to mention the April Spectator article says they were playing with their son in turns whilst the other was recovering.

Cummings arrogant reaction to the media today and the government ministers defence of him has told us all you need to know about them, its them and us

Today they destroyed the authority of the lock down, a slap if the face of the British public who have made a large sacrifice and whose conduct over the past few weeks has on the whole exemplary

voted yes, I suspect there will be more details in Sunday papers that bury him. (to me it beggars belief that he couldn't have got help locally)

Can someone with half decent design skills mock up an A4 poster saying something along the lines of "Cumming to Durham?" so we can all whack one in our windows?

This ****s me off massively.

I wasn't able to see my grandad who died alone of corona virus and his funeral is on Tue and i have to watch via a video call and this self entitled sh1t can drive across the country to see his parents. People all over have been suffering, not seeing elderly relatives, not being able to attend funerals... surely even the staunchest of tories voters can't condone this.

Then the government all come out defending him and say it is all ok. "Any parent would do the same"... So are you saying he is a better than the rest of us? what the **** have we become. Surely there is one decent person in the cabinet who will speak out against this behaviour? Surely.

There is no way Cummings will resign or get sacked... Seeing everyone come out to protect him simply highlights what most of us suspected all along... He is the puppet master.

Piers Morgan (yes, I know) alleges that Cummings' sister-in-law lives in London. So either he could have got help closer or even his in-laws can't stand him. Both could be true, of course.

So sorry for your loss, and how you are having to deal with it.

And bloody well said.

Ah, she's just a reporter, and not a political analyst/journalist then?

As the BBC's political editor her job is firstly to report the facts and then, if circumstances require, to sketch the background and analyse the implications. In this case she was reporting the government's position, in the same way that she might also report Suella Braverman's quasi-legal judgement.

Her background-sketching might refer to the fact that ministers have apparently been encouraged to back Cummings, and will cover the Labour Party's likely position.

Her analysis of the implications will discuss the possibility or otherwise of the government getting away with it.

No part of her job is to comment on whether Cummings's behaviour is reasonable.

(Whether or not the BBC as a whole is being cowed by the tinpot bullies in Downing Street is a separate issue.)

Cummings breaks rules

Are we in danger of shooting the messenger? From what I've read, Kuensberg has done no more than report what the government is saying. She's not supporting (or opposing) what they are saying, she's just announcing that they said it. Isn't that just doing her job?

I agree with everything you say after 'Pair of Slippery Shits'.

Agreed.

After all the slating of her I’d read on here, I went to her Twitter account this morning and there was not a single word of her own on the topic.

All I could see was her stating, quite clearly, what the government line was. There was no indication it was her own view and in no way could I draw the conclusion she was defending Cummings and/or the government’s response to the incident.

I know she has a reputation for being right-leaning but I was absolutely puzzled about how people were accusing her of bias based on what I saw from her this morning, viewed in isolation.

I fancy a day out on Brighton seafront tomorrow.

Sadly I don't have any kids. So just popping next door to borrow a couple from my neighbour.

Are there any vulnerable group pensioners here on NSC that I could drop them off at to look after. Don't worry I have already made sure that I have Corona Virus symptoms. So that should ensure that the kids pick it up on the drive down As we will be in a really confined space during the several hours drive.

Any takers for the kids ?

If you’ve got kids there’s nothing you can’t do now under this lockdown.

Just say it’s a care issue - both unwell have to let the grandparents look after them.

Police won’t be able to do anything

Times like this when I wonder if I've inadvertantly walked on to the set of a new series of The Thick of It and just haven't noticed.

It's a profanity filled, cynical crash through the world of spin and bullsh1t where the characters are unbelievable caricatures of incompetent politicians surrounded by loathsome 'special advisors' f**king up and covering up in equal measure.

Oh... And The Thick of It was a TV show.
