Reading really need to get over it and stop embarrassing themselves. Every time a new city is to be announced they are desperate for it

I remember the last time this happened and it was 'leaked' that Reading had got city status and a woman called Radio Berkshire in tears that she was so happy... when it was subsequently found that the leak was wrong people were devastated. A lot of people and a university but a city it is not

Well someone in Crawley Council has obviously not enough to do. They’ve applied for City Status!! That was a waste of time filing out the form. One of the criteria is “ cultural heritage, traditions and identity, along with links to royalty and famous local residents.” So that them out of the running - unless The Cure and Gareth Southgate matters

Legend has it that Henry VIII stayed in the George Hotel in the old high street. Daley Thompson and Alan Minter lived there (not together).
Think David Gilmour lived in Ifield and Pink Floyd used the local pub. Oh and the acid bath murders took place in Crawley.
HM the Queen drove past my junior school (can't remember what she was doing there) and I wore my Brownie uniform that day :lolol:

+ Donald Campbell lived in the woods

Although still in the process of designing the new City of Crawley crest, the powers that be have announced the city motto : Lignorum Stercore.

Well deserved if I might add.

Wooden shit? What have I missed?

Believe me Georgetown is far from a shithole.

Sent from my CPH2173 using Tapatalk

The fact it’s quicker to list the ones on there which aren’t shitholes speaks volumes

Medway is a sodding river, not a town.

I know it's a lot of water under the bridge after all these years, but it would amuse me if Gillingham became just a small town in Medway.

Milton Keynes, demoted from Garden City to, er, city?

I'd like to have a conversation with the bell end who signed off this list.

If I lived in Brighton I really wouldn’t be dis’ing Crawley!

Yes there are “better” places than either Brighton or Crawley to live but with a lower crime rate, cheaper housing, better job opportunities, better transport links, facilities and cleanliness Crawley beats Brighton every time.

Trolling? I mean, he can’t actually believe what he has typed.

Hard to disagree with his point to be fair.
I have never lived in Crawley but let’s look at what he’s mentioned.

Better transport links - definitely.
Cleanliness - this wouldn’t be too difficult seeing the state of parts of Brighton :D
Lower crime rate - the figures will be out there, this wouldn’t surprise me.
Job opportunities- also wouldn’t surprise me.
Cheaper housing - everyone knows property in Brighton is overpriced.
Facilities - I wouldn’t know TBH.
