According to The Weasel on the new NSC blog site, in this piece, the initial fee Albion paid for Will Buckley was actually less than 900k, rather than the 1million that was widely announced (both Watford and Albion reported it was a million).
Assuming this is correct, why would both clubs collude in reporting an incorrect fee? Albion emphasised last season that they didn't have one of the biggest budgets in League One, and Gus has already claimed the budget will be in the bottom half of clubs this coming season, so why report an inflated fee here?
It doesn't make much sense to me.
