You tell me one FTSE company that doesn't have a CFO and has finance reporting to a COO......

FTSE company? WTF? We're talking about a privately-held, £25m t/o company with a single individual owning ~95% of the equity, not a publicly-listed company with t/o in the hundreds of millions (at least) and hundreds (at least) of shareholders! The answer to your irrelevant observation is, of course, none. However, there are countless examples of businesses of comparable size to BHAFC that have no CFO (instead they have a FC), and others that have no CEO (a COO or GM reports into the Chairman, who is typically the major shareholder).

If you're going to make comparisons, at least try to make them comparable, eh?

Anyway, you're still not acknowledging the basic point I'm making, which is that neither Burke nor the manager report into PB - they report into the Chairman.

We are talking about a club that is professing to be run as a proper business. If it was just a conduit for Bloom as benefactor as club then fair enough, but all Barber's rhetoric surrounding FFP relates to the club being run under proper corporate governance lines. On this basis the club needs a CFO.

If Barber is CEO, the clue is in the job title. He runs the club and reports to TB. Or does he? You tell me. And if the manager and recruitment don't report to him, then what does he do other than piss people off by writing patronising programme notes and for trying to squeeze fans for as much as he can?

Maybe therefore in your view he's been a resounding success because the club has cut its losses.....

Yes, of course PB reports into TB. The club has a CFO, who reports to PB (although, at its size, a perfectly well-run club could just as easily have a FC reporting into a COO, or even directly into the owner/Chairman. There are many ways to skin a cat.) The manager and Burke report into TB. PB is responsible for the P&L and Balance sheet (with the assistance of the CFO), marketing, and all commercial stuff. He has a role to play in recruitment & retention (principally financial and contractual input, along with Burke and TB), but no role to play in tactics, team selection or coaching.

I think that, given his remit, PB has done a decent job. There are some caveats, but I do not believe he is primarily responsible for the club's lowly position in the league. In fact, I think he is less responsible for that than any of TB, Sami, Jones, Burke and the players (as a collective). Note that I'm not saying that PB's had no influence, just that the others have more responsibility for it. However, PB IS primarily responsible for the off-the field "matchday experience" - so, transport, catering, pricing, fan relationships, customer service, etc. etc. I'm not totally happy with those things - hence my caveats; but all of these pale into insignificance compared to the woeful on-the-firld performances this season.
