Why would Knight bother offering Cox better terms to only sell him cheap?I honestly believe he is not worth selling for less then a mill.But there again how hard up is the club?I don't think Knight will sell him for less then 750k anyway.I hope not anyway

Currie didn't have age on his side.Cox does.No less then 750k.Play makers are hard to find,especially at such a young tender age.Cox value will only increase with age.He is a big star in the making.He has excellent vision,wicked finishing and can cut open a defence with his pin point passing.I've never seen a more gifted player in a Albion shirt in his posistion

Also Currie only had a year's contract.

Would agree with that value, £750k at the very least, if we were to sell.

Yes, we are a selling club, but I think we also hold onto players for the right length of time. For example we managed to keep Zamora here for longer than we could have done, because Knight could see that his goals would lead us to promotion. I think a similar situation applies to these young players now. Ok, they may not lead us to promotion, but they are players that we have put a lot of work into producing, and I can't see Knight having the audacity to flog them all as soon as the first offer comes in. They will go of course, but IMO it's far too early.

Darren Currie isn't really a fair example I don't think. He was a good player, probably even better than Cox, but the MASSIVE difference is he was 31 years old. Cox is 19, so we should demand far more for him. Right now, I don't think Cox has done enough to show he is going to be bought by a big club, and I honestly can't see him leaving before next summer at the earliest. However, to answer your question, IF we were to sell him right now, bearing in mind the form he is in, I don't think we would consider anything under £750k.

In our present financial state and with dwindling crowds, DK would be interested to consider any price, if that price exceeded £300k with a large sell on it would be goodbye Coxy.

The simple answer if you dont want him or others to go is fill Withdean each game, rather than sit on here saying what a good supporter you are.

Am I the only one here that thinks the Virgo sale set a precedent?

He was a promising young player with a loyalty to our club. We sold him because the offer was so good we couldn't afford not to.

Now if he was worth that £1.5m having spent the season playing out of position how can young Dean Cox, a player of similar loyalty to our club (coming through the ranks, playing for the manager who developed him, having just signed a new contract) be worth anything less.

We certainly don't want to sell him and there is little evidence to suggest he'd want to go anywhere.

The cases where we've sold players recently have been entirely different. Knight had to go because he was a disruptive shit, CKR lost his way after falling out with McGhee and Virgo went because the offer was sky high.

The ONLY way we'd be offloading Cox is if we got another Virgo-sized offer, otherwise the effect it would have on our team and supporter unrest would far outweigh the benefit of the income generated.

DK is not an idiot and will recognise that arguably our best player is more of an asset playing week in week out, increasing in value and helping the cause than he is a quick buck at the first apoortunity.

I don't think we should sell any player with a sell-on clause. We have been stiffed twice (that I can think of) with these. If we are going to sell anyone, it should be for a maximum upfront payment.

Having said that, Cox has only had a run of about 20 or so games - albeit pretty good games. I don't think he's ready for a move. Plus signing a one-year extension has just made him that little bit more expensive - hopefllu enough so to make him too much of a risk to a potential suitor.

But once again, we are getting ahead of ourselves. We were talking this sort of nonsense earlier in the year about Joel Lynch - and what's happened? He's taken an horrific dip in form. The same will happen to Coxy - although I sincerely hope not of course.

Let him get 100 games under his belt before we get too excited, I'd say.
