I will let you carry on in blissful ignorance that the 'powers' will not have the ability now to close this comms loophole and go 'underground'.... over and out sir.

I think you've maybe been watching too many James Bond movies.

Its our duty to not trust the government.

Quite. B.Liar must be shitting himself. Wikileaks is about the only way we'll get the true story about the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq in our lifetimes. With a bit of luck that c unt will be strung up by his unfeasibly large ears at a war crimes tribunal yet.

Getting interesting now.

Mastercard refuse to process payments to Wikileak and Wikileak supporters/hackers take out the Mastercard Internet site. These people are apparently called Hacktivists.

Should just go to reiterate that no electronic data is 100% secure, whether that be due to the vulnerability of the system or the people who have access to it.

Medical Records, Store Card information, Bank Account, Facebook, your mobile.

The list is endless.

How did anyone think that a national id database would be a good idea.

Indeed. Quite funny the rumours that are coming out that the hackers have managed to disrupt online secure payments !!! Also very telling that Paypal are saying they were effectively told to stop taking Wikileak payments but the US government deny this. And that is precisely why we need Wikileaks !

certainly is. on the other side there is a story on the register that claims Wikileaks runs a nice sideline in selling those leaks. it maybe a bit of bad blood (the claim comes from a rival wistleblowing site), but it does answer a question i've had for a while: why is it that wikileaks have data that will be released if Assange becomes unavailable? why not publish all they have?

It is generally in the nature of governments to gather more power for themselves. Successive governments of both parties have done so. We only need look at how anti-terror legislation was mutated by local authorities for their own ends to see how this applies right down the governmental food chain. In summary: a free press and now social media is one of the checks and balances that exists to hold governments to account. As such, I do not have any fundamental problem with the release of information in the public interest. What exactly is in the public interest is difficult to define. Anything that might put lives or security installations at risk should be treated with caution and, where appropriate, redacted.

A lot of what has been reported so far does not seem to have seriously jeopardised lives. The release of diplomatic double dealing may be embarrassing for those concerned but is certainly of interest. Perhaps the most appropriate leak to date has been the suggestion that the Libyan authorities applied pressure for the release of Al-Megrahi. I'm certain most people suspected this already but the release of this certainly casts doubt on the official account that this was simply an internal Scottish government decision.

In most instances I am glad this information is out there. If governments don't wish to be caught misbehaving then don't misbehave. If the establishment is able to muzzle Wikileaks it will be a good day for government protectionism.

and people are apparently leaving the Wikileaks organisation to set up their own, fed up with the way Assange runs things.

That's been on the cards for months. Assange has been upsetting some people of in the wikileaks foundation for a long time - he's quite strong willed about wikileaks apparently - and they've been talking about setting up a new site for a while.

Due to start operating on Monday apparently.

Although given the influential people that offered to put up thousands in surety for him, I would imagine one of them would happily have put him up thus giving him address. The blokes being lined up for a fall and frankly it stinks.

If only Wikileaks was around when JFK was shot by the CIA .... sorry .... Lee Harvey Oswald.

Common sense at last today - bet that's pissed of the Americans :lolol:

My only question is why the guarantees are OK now but weren't at his first appearance ?
