It’s crawling with Rugby League fans.

True, but there's an awful lot of exiled scousers and Mancs too, just listen to the accents. Another reason why (alongside the egg chasing) Wigan have never had a massive core support.

You'd have thought there would be enough locals (on the Wigan database) with City connections for there to be extra demand though. It's close enough to Manchester, the place must be crawling with City fans (and Reds, and scousers).

There are empty seats behind the Man City goal so am guessing it's not a sell out.

Well the 'Will Griggs is on fire' song is universal in those parts.
Man Utd version: 'Will Ryan Giggs get fired
Liverpool version: 'Our local Greggs is on fire'

Wigan actually defending superbly at the moment, and not in a desperate, last ditch blocking way either. Their back four looks quite classy, especially for a League One side.

Surely I'm not the only one chuckling every time the commentator mentions Max Power though :)

Latics in the PL got much bigger crowds than eggballers. But....apart from the 4,000 die hards, proper footy bods, it was all a bit tin pot (I went there a fair bit at one point). Nice stadium and very accessible by car. Blimey, that pitch looks ruggerbuggered, though, tonight. Crikey.

Ho ho ho ho red card ha ha ! But that was very wigan player driven. Weak ref. Oh, no, though. Replay looks a bit nasty....

Ooooh. Contentious, Referee had the yellow ready to go, and has been swayed by screaming home players and crowd into showing a red.

Surely that sort of thing would never happen in an important game officiated by a professional, Premier League standard referee? ???

Wigan is a small place, the total conurbation has a population is 175,000, that's the same as Crawley and Swindon. But with Rugby League the number one sport. It was a minute football club, until Dave Whelan pumped in endless £m's, now its found it's natural level again .... small.

Looked like it was about to kick off in the tunnel when the ref and linos walked in! BBC cut away sharpish.
