The trouble with Wigan is that a lot of people there support either the Manchester or Liverpool clubs. There's also other side too, Preston, Burnley, Blackburn and Bolton (just down the road) within the same distance or less than many BHA fans travel to Withdean.
The last time I was there I sat in a pub in Wigan High Street talking with two fans who were off to The Reebok to support their team despite the fact that they'd lived in Wigan all their lives.
Shame really, they have a great stadium and a damn good team but will Dave Whelan be able to sustain the finance required to stay in the Premier ? It won't come through the turnstiles that's for sure.

I think they will sell out when they are in the premiership because it will atrract new young fans and people will get to see top players there

Well their crowds will definitely improve because of the away support.
Wigan will probably be like Wimbledon were a few years back (except they will have their own ground).

Can't see to many people wanting to make a weekend over Wigan Pier (it's a small jetty actually).

I think what some people might overlook with Wigan is that they are fairly new to the league, I think they joined in the late 70's, so most of their support is fairly young. Anyone who is over 40 or so is more likely to follow one of the other league teams in the area, particularly if they had been to games as a kid in the days before their local team was any good.
We could have the same situation here if Crawley made it into the league, the majority of the town probably follow another team, anyone getting interested in footy might go and see their local team play if they were in the league, instead of going to see another club like the Albion.
