Emily Thornberry was raised on a council estate. Would you buy a terraced house with a neighbour draping St George's flags all over their house all year round? I'm working class but I would be put off.

Oh that's OK then. The World Cup was only 5 months ago.

What is your problem? If someone wants to hang the flag of their country up on their house (in their own country) then who are you to judge them?

During school, English lit. We were made to study the book to "To kill a Mocking Bird".

I am not sure how many people here have read that book but teaching young children, escpially making them write and talk about the word ****** is highly backwards. It made people more open to say the word publicaly since it was being taught in school.

If you think that reading, and learning about, To Kill a Mocking Bird, is a BAD thing, in terms of people's attitudes to race, then there is genuinely no hope for you.

Not in that sense. I said it made people say that word more openly...which I don't think is right. Is it?

I once got Rosa Klebb, Bond villain with spiky shoes mixed up with Rosa Parks, civil rights campaigner. Made for a bizarre conversation.

Seems more than a bit bizarre by today's standards that WHUFC never raised a peep in protest at the time, especially as they had the wondrous silky skills of Clyde Best to draw on at the time.

Different time, different planet really.
To think not long after they had a certain Michael Andromeda Small plying his trade in Claret and Blue.

Rural Sussex is a bit of a backwater in these matters tho eh? Used to be always be gobsmacked on the way to Fontwell races by the sign above the Labour In Vain pub in Westergate. Good place for a pre-race lunch. Think the sign, and possibly the pub, is gone now, but only in the last ten years or so.
It is now an Indian restaurant called Basmati.

Also The Black Boy, now there's a sign to be gobsmacked about, is no longer on the A259 out for Chichester towards Bosham.

It has to be in context though. Are you suggesting people shouldn't watch films like Mississippi Burning or Time to Kill because they contain that word ?

I was suggesting for it not to be taught in schools, if people are that determined to find books or films containing that word then let them.

Easy mistake to make. I only found out very late in life that Ingmar Bergman and Ingrid Bergman were actually two different people, I just thought it was one of those 'English v Local' name-things, a bit like Peking and Beijing. And I think I once confused Gore Vidal with Vidal Sassoon, but I forget the context now.

Anyway, back to the thread ...

I got Jordan Rhodes and Jordan Henderson mixed up a few seasons ago. Quite understandable, I think. And I got really confused momentarily when I got Kit Napier and Kit Simons mixed up too - that was embarrassing.

Mickey Rouke and Mickey Rooney gets me every time:-

'why is he in that film'.

'oh it's the other one'.
