Thread bump.

I never got round to buying anything as

1. I was quite skint and
2. It didn't drop out regularly enough to warrant the cost.......

however....

As part of our ongoing home improvement (first time buyers so bought a shit hole and spent the last 3 years improving room by room) we just had all our interior doors replaced from the 1960's hollow things to proper wooden doors.

This has just completely killed the WiFi to the youngest daughters room.

I've been looking in earnest at mesh now and understand how it works but something I haven't figured out......

We have the Nokia hub/router thingy in the corner of the living room which is the corner of the flat. The opposite corner is the youngest daughters bedroom.

I've been looking at these systems and am hoping I only need 2 but where does the first one go? Does the first one take the place of our ISP providers Nokia hub/router or can we leave that where it is, and use the 2 deco's I'm looking at in other rooms on the way to the youngests bedroom?
On my Deco system the first one has to be plugged into the router so is quite close. As this non techie understands it the mesh system takes over from your router in distributing WiFi around your property.

Have a few options but they all start with plugging one deco straight into your router with an Ethernet cable and then either:

- disable your router WiFi and create a new network with deco
- leave your router wifi on and create a new network with deco
- leave your router WiFi on and copy the network name/password with deco (I’m not sure about this one tbh)

Then place the other deco further away / experiment with where it goes.

I do the first one and it works great.

I have three decos, the first one is connected to the isp hub with a cat cable and sits next to it and the other two are placed elsewhere in the house just plugged into a power supply. In your case I assume you will need to position one next to your hub ( to boost the wifi coverage and work in conjunction with your hub, not to replace it) and the other one closer to the rooms that have less coverage.

Been doing a lot of research and settled for a 3 pack of the Deco X10's for a decent price.

Let's see how they go.
