Really Dave? Maths wasn't your strong point son.

*If this is me mishearing i take it all back... but he is still a twat.

Looking at the Lib Dems' manifesto, it says they would:
- introduce a written constitution
- give the right to vote from age 16
- introduce fixed-term parliaments
- ensure all Bills in the Commons have been fully debated
- Extend Freedom of Information legislation to cover private companies delivering monopoly public services
- change the electoral system, preferably to the Single Transferable Vote

If even half of this was introduced within the lifetime of the next Parliament, it would be brilliant, and help redress the way the Tories and Labour have disfigured the political system.

What I find a little strange is that the scrapping of Trident is used as an example of cost cutting ( and one with which I agree ) but I've heard nothing during the campaign about scrapping ID cards - it also would save billions and is even more unnecessary than Trident.

I don't agree with the country having a nuclear deterrent but I do understand the argument for having it. If countries like Iran are going to launch a nuclear strike the, It would be again Israel not the UK and the same with North Korea.

However the reason for having trident in particular is political as it ensures that this country maintains it's defensive links with the US. whether that's right or wrong is another argument all together. However those who are saying we should just scrap it are either incredibly naive or are, as in Nick Cleggs case trying to scre political points.

I'll be voting Lib Dem for 2 reasons. My local lib dem MP is a good guy, and it's one vote that the conservatives don't get

Me too.

Funny how Tories and Spew Labour will happily contemplate cutting spending on pensions, education, policing, health, etc, but have no qualms about spending £100 billion on Trident.

Did our possession of this nuclear deterrent prevent the atrocities of 9/11 or 7/7?

Is it helping our boys in Iraq and Afghanistan?

We're a middle-ranking power in international affairs, and the 'special relationship' with the United States is a delusion (just as the parliamentary all-party select committee on foreign affairs recently acknowledged) - it's much more 'special' to us, in terms of self-image and fooling ourselves that we're still important, than it is to America.

lots of nice things that people think are a good idea. but then you turn the page and "bankers" will be limited to £2500 bonus. wtf? what business of it to government to regulate companies renumeration to this detail? and why hit only bankers and not brokers and hedge funds? oh, because its a popular boggyman and it plays well.

or put another way they aways go too far, coming up with policies that wouldnt be practical if actually in power.

Good point, well made.

Why would you want to give the vote to 16 year olds when most teenagers cant tell the difference between an election manifesto and X Factor?

Because as soon as you are legal to leave yoru home and live as an independant citizen, you should be able to vote.

I agree with David Cameron, we need Trident to protect ourselves from China.

If the UK ever used Trident against China, the massive retaliation would lead to the wipeout of the UK.

With rights come responsibility. And vice versa. It's hardly a fair deal to give people the responsibility of adults without giving them the rights of an adult. If you are saying young people don't know much about the political system then it's hardly surprising if they have little stake in it in terms of power.
