Interesting to see how Hargreaves does. With his track record and trophy haul, he has to be a half decent player. Good call by Sven. Hopefully the fans will give him a chance.

the other winning option we have ( IMHO) is to take Carragher off, drop the old boy back to right back ( Beckham) and bring on Lennon . .worked against T&T and I think it'd work against anyone, lennon runs, pulls defenders about, lays ball back and Beckham has time and space to whip in a killer cross for Owen to score
The issue arises when you consider that a right back is a defender.

hargreaves is good when he plays in his position. he is experienced and can score goals, and he is a Bayern München player for some time now. cant be bad, they only got quality...

i too think people dont like him, cos he doesnt play in the premiership. and of course, cos sven plays him out of position, and that's the only time when most people see hargreaves.

That is exactly what i think but everyone just thinks that he is shit.

nice to see some other people out there with their heads screwd on!

you wouldnt say that on another thread on here, would you?:D

he wasnt very good when he played for england in the past, but that imo was cos sven didnt use him properly in a position hargreaves is effective in.

if you watch the bundesliga, he is very effective for bayern there and scores important goals.

They talked about this on the telly the other day - we see him for about 20 minutes in an England shirt and he does okayish. Then he buggers off back to Germany and we don't see him again until Sven, inexplicably in our eyes, picks him again. I'm guilty of that, big time. Meanwhile, he's been doing a blinder in the Bundesliga.

We see most other England players week in week out, and so we can judge and appraise them. OH, however, is an unknown quantity to the fans.

Can't believe the poor sod got booed when he came on the other day. Give the man a chance tonight and see how he gets on.

but If I was managing we'd be attack, attack, attack . . .no defending required . . .I read it in a Kevin Keegan book, and thats what we used to Sing at the Goldstone so I don't see why England can't do it

:lolol:

Lennons final ball is appaling it was against T&T and quite often is for spurs, against a decent left back he will look nothing.

Hes best playing the last 10 when the opponents are knackered, but please stop him from crossing it !!!

Sven has done Hargegreaves no favours whatsoever in how he's used him so far. Hargreaves has invariably been brought on with 20 minutes to go when we've been shit, and he's certainly not the type of player who is ever going to come on and have a major influence in altering the course of a match. But given a starting role in his accustomed position, he could be just what the team needs. Personally I'd still prefer Carrick, but at least the team should have a more balanced look to it tonight.

Ideally, we'd have seen this team and formation a good half-dozen times before in the lead up to this tournament, but that would have involved a degree of preperation, which is not one of Svens strong points. We all know he will revert immediately to the Lampard/Gerrard combo in a 4-4-2 as soon as we're in a more crucial match, regardless how well the experiment works tonight.
