Why the excitement for Oscar?

@Maccabi I completely forgot that Earnshaw had played for you. There was a very famous radio broadcast from him on the BBC where he describes doing some training and then the attack alarms going off, hiding, then back to training on the all clear. It was that interview that indicated that Maccabi were going places under Oscar.

what did you mean? hard to understand.

He was widely regarded as Barca's very best coach and that's saying something. He won first title in 10 years for the Israely club (first season there instant turn around from like 7th to 1st).

Similar styles, good contacts, and yes less experienced number 1s are a risk but plenty of the experienced managers seem to have a whole history of doing crap yet still get jobs. Don't actually know that experience makes a big deal of difference in the % of 'successful' managers these days?
And every manager has to start somewhere......am I excited....yes...I'm excited as a very excited thing that is very excited....in my book the best choice....who wants all these old has-beens who go from club to club...spend loads of money and when it doesn't work come out with...we should spend more....(Harry Redknapp...take note...).

It's a passage in a popular fictional book, much like quoting Anchorman.

Are you saying the Bible is a popular fictional book, in which case fair enough.

Or does it genuinely come from/ is it central to some popular fiction tosh like The Da Vinci Code.

Genuine Question.

Well yes. I mean I'm a Palace fan, so I hope Oscar's shit and all his signings are donkeys, but I was genuinely enquiring over the excitement over someone who I see as a bit of a risk. But lots of people have given good answers (continuity, contacts, well rated by Barcelona, etc).

Still think if our roles were reversed you be questioning it as I have, but all appointments are indeed a risk and he could tun out to be a good one.

Good luck with the hoofball in the Premiership and buying up Blackpools squad - way to go !

I can't recommend players from Maccabi tel aviv, you probably nab(i hope i made a good use of this word) them and i will be sorry.

I saw you need a left back

Taleb Tawatha - Maccabi Haifa left back.
Oscar knows Tawatha for sure, i can not tell if he will be candidate cuz i don't know how much you spend on players.
Although he is very fast and attacking he have some weaknesses.
Expensive - Maccabi Haifa always demand an high value on there players, i'm guessing he will be for sale in about 1-1.5M Euro's.
Not so strong - not so suitable for epl or spl cuz of hes slim body, if you will get him there will need to be a lot of work on the club gym.
Good attacking - not the best thing in defense but he have great stamina and can burn all left wing.

This is from what I've read about you needing a left back, is there any other positions you need to strength?

A nice bit of South London
I didn't want to interrupt in the other thread, but for those who don't mind conversing with a Palace fan can you explain the excitement? It genuinely seems a really risky appointment to me. Not that players for big teams can't be good managers, of course they can, but they seem to fail as often as they succeed.

He could of course turn out to be brilliant, just as a high-scoring non-league player can turn out to be able to cut it in the Championship, but it seems a hell of a risk. Though of course your chairman is a good gambler :)

**** off Palace

He wont bring any players from israel, im pretty sure about it... the best player who scored 27 goals last season was already sold to Reims from france for 2M $.. and the others, are just not good enough for the championship from my point of view.

anywayz, i was realy depressed yestrday when i heared Martinez and Turiju are also moving to brighton and leaving maccabi, 2 brilliant guys aswell, but well, atleast its to brighton and not to any other team.

im sure you guys gonna be shocked from the sucess brighton gonna get with those guys, they are just brilliant. (OCJ, martinez and turiju...)... ;)

nice one with turiju from 1:13

Hey BrightonISR, thanks for the video. I like the comments about the coaches being tough but fair. And also the statement about seeing the bright side. That was perhaps missing a little by the sound of things from Poyet's regime.

And don't be too down. Football has highs and lows. Make the most of the highs and that'll get you through the lows. I hope you continue with your success next season.

also looking forward to him utilising his contacts with bayern. barcelona and his knowledge of israel to bring in even more flair icons to the club

the bar for flair has been set very high by gus (bringing in a colombian goalkeeper, for example), but i predict that oscar (with no experience of english football) is going to go mental with the signings of foreigners

And thats good? It doesn't help persuade the youngsters to join your new acadamy.

It is a risky appointment, but it's exciting!

That's the buzz, the anticipation. We're getting someone in to enhance what we have, that shares a philosophy that has been established through the club at every level. One who can hopefully get the best out of the latin spirit that runs through the heart of the team.

Damn right most of us are excited!!
Think one of the major stumbling block that teams have is lack of consistency, I'm Palace supporter but i think Bloom runs Brighton really well and getting in a ready made replacement is the way to keep that consistency, always used to work well for Arsenal in terms of players. Look at how Blackburn and Wolves have struggled with no overriding plan and reacting in ad hoc fashion to problems.

Out of interest and this is not designed to bait, at what point do you think Barber and Bloom identified him. While Poyet was selling himself to Reading back in march or when they suspended Poyet?

It's not my problem at all. I understand that many Brighton fans don't want a Palace input, and I've stayed out of that thread for that very reason. I'm not trying to goad you into a response, and while I'm happy to take the abuse (this is a Brighton board), I was genuinely posing the question.

My interest is because I'm a Palace fan who views you as our rivals, and enjoys the rivalry though not any hatred that goes with it.

Touch of irony in your username, don't think any of us twist your words. They are just complete nonsense.

Funny that you asked this, in the last 10 years maccabi main problems was the crushing after losing in scoreline, in oscar time we did amazing 3 turnarounds in scorlines, i have to attach you the most exciting turn in this season for maccabi and maybe of all times, you can see even oscar emotions for the first time in maccabi after the goals.
see here from 3:40, we are in navy

Looked like a decent game, and some decent goals (IMO of course), looking forward to seeing what Oscar can do for us

There's risk with any new manager, no more with Oscar than anyone else IMO. I'm happy with the appointment because I've enjoyed the style of football we've played, and under Oscar we should be playing a similar passing style. I'm glad we've not appointed one of the merry-go-round crap managers that everyone else ends up with. And I also like the foreign signings we've made - Oscar is ideal to deal with those we have, and hopefully find some more over the years.

Never normally agree with this fella, but spot on.

Having managers from the continent improves our ability to scout out talent outside the UK. Avoiding overpriced British players, we can get players of the same quality for half the price, this will be fundamental in our promotion push, and if we get there; viral to attract players from the continent that will improve our survival if we get promoted.

I would love to sign British players, but they're expensive. Not financially sustainable until we build our academy and start producing.

Think that's right upto a point, I already mentioned Wegner/Arsenal in another post and i think he used his knowledge of the French league to sign some great players at value but when Newcastle catch up with the idea that French domestic players are undervalued then the value has gone out of that market. Is there any value in the Spanish league or are they even more overpriced than and English equivalent? I don't like having to justify all my comments I genuinely think Bloom and Barber are running Brighton in a serious grown up so way which bodes well for your future and I'm generally interested in the thought of you all.
