for me

whing elphick lynch richards

thought butters caught out to many times today and showed his age

I agree but we must remember that Richards is only with us until 15th Dec unless we sign him permanently in January but in any case he must go back in December.

I thought that El Abd did OK today the first goal was as much Butters fault as his and the 2nd was due to him drifting into the middle looking for the ball.

I have been a severe critic of MK but today he got rid of the ball very quickly on most occassions, perhaps the GK coach has been telling him.

Another good point on the TV was Wilkins pushing White out of the way so that he could see as if to say 'I am the boss Move.'

As someone posted earlier, it was Elphick out of position chasing the ball, which was then played in between Butters and El-Abd.

So which of the two does everyone blame of course?

People blame him for the first, for being too wide and not coming in, then blame him for the second, for coming in and not being wide.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

How about some encouragement? Sorry no, personal opinion is far more important.

And yes, in answer to the earlier suggestion that Hart, Reid or Lynch should have played there instead; two midfielders who haven't played in months, and a left back/centre back who's only just back from injury would of course been a much better bet at right back, than one of the back four that's been so solid recently.

you seem to have missed the point of this board - it is all about personal opinions

It's trendy to criticize some players, and at the same time whitewash others as beyond fault.

Sadly, several people want to point directly at our bravest and most match-devoted player for everything. That the ball gets into the area has to be something to do with the fact that the ball, and hence their attack got past the midfield as well.

orient took their two goals extremely well, but our amount of pressure and possession STILL ought to see us test their keeper more than we did!

If anything, that is what Wendy ought to be looking at improving on. If we were to get promotion, we might only survive if we make the most of our possession in the Championship.

I seem to remember, some months ago everybody saying that he was too small for central defence. not enough skill for midfield but a useful right back, a couple of mistakes and how times change!!!

Are you actually Adam El Abd himself? If not, surely his father? Or brother?

What the hell does "most match-devoted" mean? Just because there's no footballing term that can be used to praise him, you have made one up!

As for yesterday, I think it's very harsh to say El Abd was at fault for their first goal. That ball should have been cleared by the right sided centre back (Elphick possibly??), it was in no way in El Abd territory. But, for the second goal, he cocked up by ball-watching, and Michel's MIRACLE save in the last minute was only down to El Abd going missing once again. Whatever you say about El Abd, and I do actually agree with some of it, he just makes far too many GLARING and goal-costing errors to be considered a professional. Cut those out, and he'd be a useful player, but playing him is like starting 1-0 down in most games.

What's up, am I spoiling your ganging up fest? Most match-devoted, I thought was pretty clear - focussed, and puts himself into tackles without fear of getting himself hurt, passionate, and a lot of the time his laying it all on the line is responded to with "what's HE doing in the team?"

Yes, as was already said - he wasn't 'at fault' for the first goal, and credit is still due to Gray - who also had to beat Kuipers, who was right where the ball went...but just too late because it had already went and gone into the net.
The second goal, their player hit the ball across AeA, and where was the far post, and where was Kuipers? It was an excellent placement of the ball and el-Abd cannot form a wall all by himself to stop everything. How is there not a whole thread dedicated to Elphick going missing for their first goal?

What are you, el-Abd's judge and jury?

I thoght if anything we should have stopped the cross from the right being played in for the second goal. That was far too easy.

El Abd's best position is IMO centre back, however wherever he plays his commitment cannot be questioned. Since his mistake against Leeds his performances at CB have been excellent.

if he was focused, he wouldnt make so many mistakes. and being match-devoted is hardly a reason to put him in the team. a man with one leg would be match devoted, doesnt mean he is good enough to be playing

but surely if elphy moves out of position to clear the ball those 2 should cover the space

True.

Personally I still say what I've always said, he is useful back up for all three positions (and leftback in a pinch) but not good enough to start regularly in any. A useful squad player is what he is, no more than that.

I can half see your point re there being no "Where was Elphick for the first goal?" thread, but I guess the problem is El Abd makes these mistakes far too often. As I have said, 95% of the time I actually quite like him as a player. Well, ok, maybe not like, but he's certainly not someone I have a problem with. Where he lets himself down is that when he makes a cock-up, it's nearly always a big one which leads to a goal. Yesterday, I thought he did ok for large parts, but he still made a mistake for one goal and almost cost another. I know their second was a very good finish, he placed it about an inch below the cross bar so fair play to him for that. BUT, the point is that he was El Abd's man to mark (as he was in the 93rd minute too), and both times he lost him totally. He wasn't even close. Maybe it's a concentration thing, because it's not like he's a complete joke or a disgrace to the shirt, he just seems to cost us big time and often. And, in answer to the original Elphick point, I guess the answer is that Elphick has made barely any errors in this, his debut, season. El Abd is still making plenty after several years in the first team.

If el-Abd is being told to cover, while Elphick or Butters go forwards, then neither of the latters will be "making any errors this season" while they are totally MISSING when the ball comes to their positions.
We can't have it all ways - we pressure a team into their own half, bring our backs into the middle and lay seige, and the opposition get a break while Butters is trying to head a corner in, and Elphick is making for their back post.

Who is usually furthest back, d'ya think? It's el-Abd, isn't it ???
