Why is racism worse than fatism

What a load of bollocks

You think that calling overweight people fat bastards will turn them into healthy eating fitness freaks.
You couldn't be more wrong.people eat to make them feel better so when somebody insults them what are they going to do?

YES. EAT

Why do people go to the gym? To make sure they don't get fat. Why? Because being fat is seen as a negative thing. Why? Fatism.

And for every fat person who over-eats because of low self-esteem, there'll be five fat people trying to get fit because they're unhappy with their body. That probably wouldn't happen without the negative stigma attached to obesity.

Would you rather obesity was viewed positively? Because if it was, the whole nation would be fat, ugly and heading for an early grave.

People have been persecuted due to their race and been exploited in previously years, it's very malicious and hurtful. "Fatism" is most of the time harmless banter and people have the ability to change their weight,

If a skinny white man calls an overweight black man a fat bastard, that will be seen as a racist comment.

you have hit the nail on the head! for most normal people calling the overweight black man a fat bastard would be considered to be at the least rude and at the most very rude but not in the least racist, however our good guardian reading friends find racism in the UK wherever they look, they like to invent and scream racist where it doesnt exist, just look at the latest round of witch hunts.Just look at the collective workshop of comrade brothers and sisters pricks now trying to claim Gus is a racist!

bugger i think ive got up too early for this game.

!

Some of the ignorance on here is unbelievable. Have you ever heard of hundred of years of slavery or the civil rights movement in the USA to combat segregation and discrimination or apartheid in South Africa. Anyone who doesn't understand the difference is just plain thick.

Are we being racist against South Americans, for saying that a word they use as a term of endearmeant or as a minor insult is racist? Is racism and anything else along those lines about intent?

Of all the isms, fatism is one of the least. You don't see whole movements of fatists, trying to eradicate fat persons from slim people's country.

We could dilute racism by comparing it to many other dislikes, but it's still condemnation of people for what is the creator's choice.
Ginger-ism is probably more comparable to racism for that reason, and prejudice against women - which has some different aspects of favouritism vs disregard all rolled into a mess of issues in some places.

I only gave 1 senario.

Calling a gay man a fagott is that racism
Calling a Londoner a cockney is that racism
Calling a Liverpudlian a scouser is that racism
Calling a Welshman a taff is that racism
Calling a Scotsman a jock is that racism
Calling a Irishman a paddy is that racism

Yes it is in my opinion so why are those tags accepted.

Call a guy from a Britain a Brit - is that racism.
Call a guy from Pakistan a Paki - is that racism.

I'm all against racism but the problem with this country is that it there is no balance to the attitude. It seems its fine for white people to have any term thrown at their race.

You aren't born fat, you are born black. Having a stigma based on something beyond your control is what makes it worse, overweight people 99% of the time do have a choice in the matter.

All types of minority groups have died because of discrimination due to people like Hitler, Stalin and Mugabe. IMO all discrimination is as bad as each other, discrimination against black people is no worse than discrimination against any group it's just much more highlighted in society due to what it used to be like in the past. Just my opinion of course. *awaits to be branded a racist*

Once again, I feel South Park did this best, summed up with the line "If you want to hurt another human being, you'd better make damn sure they have the same colour skin as you"

The problem is the moment racism is regarded as a bigger crime you become racist:moo: Race hate crimes are disgusting but black on black white on white crimes should not be tolerated either???

This may be so, but crime isn't the issue in this subject. Crime doesn't have a race, crime is crime irrespective of colour.

There's not a good reason to ever bring up someone's colour of skin unless to comment on a shirt that goes well with it or a suntan, and suchlike harmless asides.

Is this a serious thread? Judging from the OP and a lot of the replies I would say no...

The key point here is "people have been." However not any more (in this country anyway). Someone may say a word to someone else, it's just a word and means nothing in modern Britain.

you say that Fatism is harmless banter, not to all. I personally carry a bit of timber, and i couldn't personally give a flying f*** if people call me fat. However i know a lady, who is seriously obese (30+ stones) who comfort eats, and is heading for an early grave. I think she is a lovely woman, who has a heart of gold. She just lacks self belief, and if you were to have a pop at her, she wouldn't see it as banter, it would attack her already low self esteem, and make her eat more, as she only feels comfortable with food.

No different to a coloured person who may be verbally attacked by someone, this can attack their self esteem and they can look for comfort elsewhere. But on the other hand, i have a really good friend who is black, and his favourite saying is "what's a Ni**er supposed to do around here?"

it works both ways.

I maybe opening the biggest can of worms the world has ever known but who decided that racism is worse than everything else.

What is the difference between the colour of somebodys skin & the size of somebodys skin.

Making a reference about skin colour is a no no but referring to somebody with a weight problem is not treated with such outrage.

WHY

Being fat is a choice, the colour of your skin isnt. Surely that is obvious to see?
