except that harding's contract was up, he was (at the time) an england U-21 interntional - as good a time for him to ash in as I can think of. Can hardly blame him for thinking Leeds Utd was a better prospect than us.

And no-one was begrudging mcVirgo his highly successful move to Celtic

i just think this division is so poor, we have a good chance of getting out of it. if we get promoted, we maybe able to solve the gates role at a stroke as the teams we will be playing will be A) far better draws B) far better supported and C) entertaining to watch.

ie do we want Yeoville at home next year bringing 200 and the gate 4000, or Crystal Palace, Leicester Wolves etc, bringing full allocation of away fans and a 7000+ gate

so to answer your question, Yes

Mine has too, which is why I asked. DW is putting together a good side and instead of gnashing our teeth, as a bunch of fans, about how we need this that or the other player to stop the rot, it's turned into who should we be looking at to give a promotion push a bit more emphasis. The football is also starting to improve big time, albeit still a bit patchy.

Blimey, where to start... Dick Knight at the fans' forum, Dean Wilkins in my front room (ooer!), this Argus story - http://www.theargus.co.uk/search/display.var.1514174.0.albion_wont_be_held_to_ransom_by_bertin.php, Albion website - http://www.seagulls.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Latest/0,,10433~1026073,00.html, NSC ad nausem.

Were you on a holiday cruise at the time, and missed this kerfuffle? ???

I stand corrected. But the argus article suggests that we offered him a deal and the agent was looking round but coming to uk to finalise the deal...wlkins appears to have kyboshed that......unless i read it wrongly.

anyway you couldnt blame him for looking especially as last year we playeed some of tehworst stuff we had seen at Withdeam since we had been back

It was the manner of the move, not the move away itself that grated. Virgo is a fine example of how a young player that has been looked after by his club should behave, and how both parties benefit.

I don't blame him for looking either. His agent was touting him around Belgium and Holland - to no avail.

What grated was the fact that, despite calls - the club heard precisely nothing from Bertin's agent until the end of July, nearly four weeks after the resumption of training. By that time, the offer had been withdrawn, the funds re-allocated, and the public announcement at the fans' forum a few days afterwards by Knight and Wilkins that Bertin's return would have created resentment and division in the squad. I'm not quite sure how the latter would necessarily have come about, but I would like to think that they know the players better than we do.

By that time, I think the club had O'Callaghan firmly in its sights.

As for Bertin - he didn't even stick around at Luton. Don't know why that was but, it says... something.

Don't blame anyone in football for looking out for themselves - 1st 2nd & 3rd - there is little or no loyalty from clubs (Mayo & Hart are an exception I know but how many players can reckon on that sort of treatment). Football is a short career and nowadays it is ridiculously lucrative - everyone involved needs to grab what they can when they can. It's not disrespectful just common sense.

I think that people realised that Currie had a legit excuse for not signing – his mother was very ill and Luton was the nearest team to her. Wilkins I believe said that they had agreed a deal with DC but he had to pull out when his mother’s condition worsened.

As for Bertin & Harding they chose not to sign when offered a deal. I don’t know what Bertin’s doing now – don’t even know if he has a team – but if he was fit and available I’d certainly be interested in having him back in Jan if O’C wasn’t staying. That is unless Wilkins has someone better in mind.

when currie first came here from league 2 Wycombe (iirc), we all thought it was a dodgy signing. older player looking for a pay day. we were proved very wrong right away. for his faults (distinct lack of pace) he warmed to us with a professional approach, hard work, intelligent play and superb passing. So when Ipswich came in for a player who had never expected to play at that level, we said well played and best wishes.

Thats all a lot different from the other two mentioned who fannied about, looked for better deals went behind our backs etc.

I never thought it a dodgy signing. If anything, I recall a lot of people being amazed that no-one had picked up this player before, and I was delighted when he came. He started off slowly - if you get might drift - but soon started turning in some great performances. He was definitely one of the best players in the lower divisions.

from what we could glean, bertin wanted to wait till he had a better offer and we told him to fuckofski, currie was offered a chance to come back and chose 1. millwall and then Luton over us, and thirdly harding wanted to wait for a better offer and got one.

So why do we not hate all of them equally?

***Sorry meant harding*****

Because (and I'm sure this has been mentioned many times but I can't be bothered to read the entire thread) you are over-simplifying the situations into a case of "they all left us" when the issue is the manner in which they left/treated the club/fans.
