I never knew there were that many whites in London. I always presumed it was just bushy

Well, I'm one the 620,000. My reason was that London was becoming a chore. I started to find it more and more frustrating and a rip off. It became hard work. I still go back a fair bit, mainly for certain restaurants, bars and definately clothes shopping; Brighton is piss poor for clothes. Whilst I missed the metropolitan buzz I did not ever miss the city itself. This said had my wife got a job she applied for a year ago I'd have moved back to Camden.
They're talking about born and bred londoners , not yokels like you.

I see. My mistake. A yokel who lives in the centre of a city as opposed to say, Haywards Heath?

I left in 2008 after working there for 3 years, aged 27. My job wasn't all that amazing, I was single and I wanted to try living abroad, so I went to Spain and haven't thought that much about miving back yet..!

In general I guess it's getting easier an easier to decide to move away and work somewhere else, with easier and cheaper communication and transport to keep you in touch with where you're originally from... depending on your work and family situations...

No, a yokel is someone who grew up in a small country town, as you did.

A yokel is someone who resides, not necessarily grew up/born bred etc.

I left London 18 months ago after 20 years living there. There are lots of reasons, all amplified now I've got kids, but it basically comes down to the tangible air of menace hanging over the place.

I basically got sick of living with 9m moody twats, all feeling they were being disrespected. There are twats everywhere of course, but there are many more in london and my god they're moody.

(I haven't read the bbc article but I imagine that about sums it up)

I'd forgotten that - the anti-social twattishness that isn't very uncommon. Probably made it easier for me to say bye-bye London

From the oxford english dictionary ,yokel:

an uneducated and unsophisticated person from the countryside. I'll concede the uneducated part.

I picture a yokel as some fella wearing a smock with a piece of straw hanging from his mouth

the funniest/saddest bit of all in the utterly deluded BBC piece is the implication that ethnic minorities are 'trapped' in inner London due to poverty. It just displays such a lack of connection with the real world, were people are earning decent money own 400k houses and simply choose to live in an area they feel ethnically and culturally more comfortable with. This 'moving out for more space and a garden' that apparently the whites do, does not appeal to ethnic minorities so much as it means moving to an area where they will be a minority again.

yes ethnic minorities are more likely to live in poverty in inner London but the reasons for this skewed figure (not to mention the massive generalisation within it) are not ones that people like the author wants to address as it de-rails his narrative and agenda too much.

its just so saddening to see that a) he obviously has nit met any normal ethnic minority people just getting on with their lives and earning similar money to the whites who have moved out, and the assumption that white flight is due to some cash bonanza inner London whites have received without anyone telling anyone. these people are sending this sort of distorted ill informed shit out on the state broadcaster as they feel the need to keep reinforcing that Its All OK. its an abuse of the BBCs remit and damaging to genuine social cohesion and very very misguided.

Interesting points, where did you get this information from?

talking to black neighbours who own houses in london that they could easily cash in on and move somewhere leafier with the money. selling 2 houses to black families personally. unlike the author. its far more complex than his piece which takes stats and creates his own narrative with, which is hell bent on implying that the factors are economic rather than social.

just personal anecdotal evidence then? That's a shame. I have an interest in urban history and was hoping you were going to point me to something with weight.

So basically you've taken a couple of hours to structure a flimsy reply without admitting that his original post answered your question pretty well , and that he has first hand experience at the coalface, as it were, unlike you.

if you have an interest in urban history then perhaps you could provide something to counter my flimsy anecdotal evidence. talking to neighbours every day having these people in and out your own home socially and actually having discussions about white people leaving and the make up of the area like people do in real life at school gates and community events is only anecdotal true. what we need are STATS.
