Why hasn't Coppell just TAKEN the job?

He was asked yesterday how he thought the fans would react on saturday.

He said he didn't know.

He went on to say that there was a faction of the fan base that had never been behind him because of his Palace Connections

I know that he does get regularly abused by idiots behind the dug-out

It did make me wonder whether if it really is a marginal decision whether the fans could make all the difference.

Could a tremendous reception for 90 mins possible persuade him to stay?

What have we got to lose?

90 mins of boos would imho definately see him walk away

I just think that he genuinely hasn't made his mind up about it. Presumably he has as many things to consider (family, home, relocation etc) as everyone else when they are offered a new job.

I thinnk hes gone home to talk it over with the wife.

This really saddens me. It happened to Micky, it happened to Peter Taylor, it will probably keep on happening until we get a stadium without a running track behind it.

Basically there are a few idiots - some of them look as if they've been let out for the day - who get their rocks off on shouting abuse and getting a reaction from the bench.

What the f*** have they really had to complain about this season?

I even wrote to Peter Taylor once saying they weren't representative of the vast majority of Albion fans and got a nice letter back saying that he wasn't going to let them get to him.

If they are the reason for SC walking I will personally go down and smack them on Saturday.

Interesting listening to a couple of the Reading fans on Talksport this morning - didn't seem to fancy SC at all. Is that the general feeling Wilts?

We just didn't want to go after someone who currently has a job. The fans got behind the morals that JM set out, and then he went after Coppell. We'd all be happy with Coppell, yes, but we thought it would be an inexperienced manager with a point to prove and a bit of new direction. Coppell has done this job before, so I can't see why he might be excited by it, hence I'm not sure why we've gone for him when the likes of Adams are around, with no experience but with a point to prove.

Is this true:eek:

As North Stander and obviously prawn sandwich eating, polite clapping, flask using, cushion essential, tartan rug user I am staggered as I had no idea he was getting abuse.

Just been thinking, he goes to Brentford, he signs Steve Sidwell. He goes to Brighton, he signs Steve Sidwell.

Sidwell leaves for Reading, Coppell follows him.

Is there something we should be told?

I know he's a good looking young boy, Steve, but he's ginger, FFS! Plenty more fish in the sea!

Well I sit in Block D pretty much behind the dug out and i havnt heard that much abuse. Ok every now and then somebody will shout out for him to take a player off etc, but abusing him because of his Palace background, not that i have heard!

I want a manager who is 100% behind the club, not one looking to jump ship just weeks after signing a new contract. If he doesnt get the reading job, will be then be looking for any Division 1 or Premiership job that comes up?

A decision should have been made by today so we all know what is going on.

Mr Blobby
Ps I still cannot and will not sing STEVIE COPPELLS BLUE AND WHITE ARMY, but I would NOT abuse him. I always get behind every player, every manager while they are playing/managing us. I think these forums are the place to gripe......so sing up everyone on Saturday for the 16 committed Albion players...they are the ones that are important

I think part of the problem is that decisions in football nowadays are made so quickly - sometimes to avoid the media getting in there first - that when a manager genuinely wants to take his time to ensure he's making the right decision, we're all flummoxed by it!

Neither DK nor SC are renowned for making hasty decisions, and this could work in our favour. Coppell doesn't have the same raw ambition as someone like Adams, say, and so the fact that he hasn't packed his bags and sprinted in the direction of Reading is reason for optimism. I hope.

Ah a breath of logic from both Lush and Mr Blobby.

Firstly if it was that clear cut he'd have gone by now. The fact that he's even thinking it over is a blessing.

Second we've got a cracking squad of players. They're the ones that win games at the end of the day and anyone half decent should be able to do what Taylor did with Adams' squad and hold them together for three quarters of a season.

I personlly think that even if Coppell goes the fact he's taking this much time to think about it says a lot of good for our club and a lot of good for the man too.
