Why do you support the Albion when you have no connection with the area?

South Wales (im not welsh !!)
Like others so it seem's, I moved tro Brighton when I was about 14, started going to The Goldstone in the very late 60s early 70s, became a regular "Northstander" and even though I moved away from Brighton in my early 20s I just never stopped supporting them.

My memories of the North Stand and away games of that era are with me forever, awesome times!!

My dad moved here when I was 16, so I played the old champ manager as Brighton and had a soft spot for them as the once great underdogs on the brink of relegation from the football league. I moved here at 25 and the soft spot grew. I became friends with Albion fans and visited the withdean regularly where it became an infatuation. My friendship with HP seagull took us to away trips for the Albion and our mutual love of football took us further afield.

In truth if asked I say I am a Brighton fan these days but I know it's not pure. I openly admit to being a Liverpool fan for 30 years, since my days first kicking a football in Ireland. Even living on Highbury's doorstep for years (when it was a stadium not flats) as an impressionable pre-teen kid never changed that. Even in a primary school full of gooners celebrating michael thomas's title winner I stood alone and firm in my loyalty. Arsenal/Liverpool games in the North London pubs where being a loud, gobby and proud liverpool fan didn't change me. No my loyalities waivered on wet, cold nights at the withdean, watching Hawkins and then record signing Dickinson lumber around the pitch like a cart-horse. It wasn't live football that did it, I used to go to Underhill to watch Barnet to see matches, and had previously been to most local clubs and further afield. It was just something about Brighton which went back longer and was buried deeper. The Albion love grew to the extent that in watching Brighton play Liverpool I had little doubt where my current loyalities lie. Some may call me a glory hunter, but that wasn't the case for the last 20 years and moving to a new city offers the opportunity for re-invention. I hope that any kids will be brought up as full Albion fans and they will take that with them wherever they go in their hearts and will take them to live football at the first opportunity to ensure the bug sets.

If i moved to an area and had no connection to it i suppose if i ended up following the local team that would be the answer-

So if i moved to croydon and watched Palace i would do so in my full Albion kit-

i'd become famous up at Selhurst

I had no connection with Shepherds Bush and am a glory hunter from the 1970s. Its stuck and there's nothing I can do about it and nothing I want to do about it.
