We have not lived within our means though.

Had it not been for the generosity of former Albion player Howard Wilkinson in signing Mark Beeney for £350k when he was manager of Leeds we would have been wound up by HMRC in the mid/early 90's

The arrogance from Brighton fans towards Palace makes me cringe. Most Brighton ‘fans’ I work with think they are far superior to Palace. Its not the case is it? Have you seen the Premier League?
Yes you have a better ground. I have been and its alright. Just alright. But its just the same as half the grounds in the championship.

Edited for Accuracy: The arrogance from Spurs fans towards Arsenal makes me cringe. Most Spurs fans I work with think they are far superior to Arsenal. Its not the case is it? Have you seen the Premier League over the past decade?
Arsenal have a better ground. Spurs is alright. Just alright. But its hardly the Olympic stadium now is it.

I think I am correct in saying that we payed the tax payers back every penny we owed and not just a penny in the pound, there is a difference.

Fair comment.

Ironically, the only person who has not got his money back from the Albion (excluding Sir TB's and the current board's investment) is..............................Bill Archer.

Coz like Nigel Atkins, Palace fans always seem too talk shite. They might have had the better history between the two clubs. But that is all about to change.

Better history, palace, eh? Brighton are the club that has been Champions of England by winning The Charity Shield. The only thing palace have won is the zenith windrcreen paint pot tin pot trophy. Brighton were also first to the cup final. When were Brighton last in the "premier league"? 1983, but in those days it was called division 1. Palace were in Div 2 at the time. Even the last 20 years has created some brilliant history with the York City game, fans united and the "war years" Palace? Bunch of jokers that make tools of themselves in the city, with 250 teenagers getting laughed at by city workers. Palace hate us because of boxing day and we them likewise. They also hate us because the older one's remember their end being taken by Brighton fans (one famous game where Brighton took big numbers in the 70s) and a few other major incidents in croydon (and this is taken from the palace fans website where they explain the rivalry). The CS gas incident at the friendly didnt help either. I was on a train with palace fans who were caught up in that and they were very badly shaken up. However Palace travelled in numbers to the goldstone and Brighton did with interest to selhurst.

There is much cobblers written here. Hate is a big word but hating Palace because of the way the club has been financially run or the stadium, well you could point that finger at the Albion.

I lived in Caterham (Surrey) and Croydon for 35 years and in general the thing with the Palace is just banter, yes late 70' / early 80's it was nasty and never fun coming back to Croydon on the train after a game at the Goldstone.

It's about Geography they are the closest club.

To a degree I think over the last 20 years we have been envious, while the Albion have been up and down Palace have been Premiership and Championship and really the rivalry died for a while. Now the tables are rapidly turning and we are on the up while Palace have been dying and slow and painful death for a few years, probably since Ron Noades left.

In normally circumstances you would hate to see a club slowly falling apart but as it is the Palace we can sit back enjoy and laugh (well I do).

Yes I remember that, did Dick Knight not kind of embarrass Archer in forgoing the balance of monies owed?
