Why is it society is obsessed with giving people a label?

middle class?
working class?
gay?
straight?


We are all human and I see myself as an individual who could fall in love with anyone, but i dont label myself and nor would I try and label others agaisnt there will.

A possible explanation could be found in basic psychology?

When we were cave dwellers, without language etc., we saw people, things, animals, and instinctually saw them as, for example, food, foe, potential mates, shelter making materials etc.

As societies and languages evolved, along with the birth of sociology, the labeling situation arose

If you strive not to do it, I suppose that would make you a non-labeler in some eyes...
