Basil is not Bayzil
Coriander is not Cilantro
Courgettes are not Zucchini
Bloody Yanks
So you’re fine with eggplant then?

Cilantro is what the herb is called in Spanish, and it’s used in a lot of Mexican cuisine, so that’s fair enough. Zucchini is close to the Italian Zucchina - also fair enough considering Italian immigration to US. Bay-zil does sound silly - give you that.

Eggplant though, that’s just ridiculous, and so much uglier sounding than aubergine.

It is disgusting! You're given what looks like a battered sausage only to be massively let down when you bite into it.
Au contraire.

It is sliced into ridged slices - definitely not a battered sausage lookalike.

Change the names of things.

For years I’ve been getting gherkins and now I’m being told they are called cornichons.
They’re gherkins…
Or pickles in the States.
It shouldn’t really bother me but it does.
Small beer really compared with the eggplant/aubergine argument.

It’s just that I’ve never heard of cornichons before. Annoyed at my own ignorance maybe
