Why do people read on the toilet?

I tried it earlier, and I hadn't read more than a sentence before the entire contents of my bowels dropped. Making the whole exercise pointless.

Why do people do it?

I'm an average speed reader. Would take me about 10 seconds to read your average sentence.

Bowel size I don't know, the deposit was about the size of a Guinea Pig.

The toilet is the only 'escape' I have left.

Same here: Missus, telly, dogs (although now and again one of the dogs will follow me in and just sit there staring .. quite unnerving!).

Its the only quiet room in the house. Theres always a small pile of mags (generally Autosport or the sports part of the Sunday newspapers) for general reading.

You think you have it bad...my bird follows me into the bog and talks at me, even during a big job...then gets upset when I think that is not right and stomps off..I have to lock the f*cking door! FFS!

I dont read a hell of a lot, so i asked the wife why she reads on the toilet. apparently the technical reason for it is; it relaxes the bowels or at least the person. as some people find reading relaxing, hence helping them to poo.
also as you can see, women do read on the toilet aswell.

also have to go now, as the wife prefers to poo in the upstairs toilet and i need to put the decorations away in the loft. the hatch is in the upstair toilet, and it is open with ladders up. so got to sort it out.

It is traditional to take reading material into the bog with you. If you are married with/without children, it gives you an excuse to disappear for 10 minutes. Also the paper comes in handy if you run out of bog roll or the smoke detector goes off as a result of obnoxious fumes building up and you have to wave the paper to stop the noise.
