I think we've digressed slightly from the original point made.

True - apols.

Parents like that are either irresponsible or - once they see what the film is like - negligent not to take the child from the cinema.

My biggest bugbear with cinema these days is the incessant chat and the rustling of sweet wrappers. People seem to assume they are at home and can just behave like its TV in their living room - Sadly a wider issue - just manifest in cinemas.

I don't like going any more and try to go at odd times to avoid the whispering/rustling masses.

Indeed. My personal hate - the mid-film mobile phone conversation that goes something like this:

"Allright...I'm in the cinema....it's really good...where are you?...who else is with you?...fancy coming out later?....dunno, it's only just started...yeah, that sounds good...did you watch the tv last night?..."

Never in the field of human conversation has so little been said by so many.

Way out west
The sweet paper rustling, drink slurping, phone beeping and the like all really get my goat in the cinema...I have always wondered why they don't sell the sweets in trays so people can just pick one off and don't have to ferret around in a bag made from the noisiest material imaginable....aaaarrgggghhhhh.

Worthing
All those fatties eating popcorn and slurping their coca-cola has ruined many an evening in the cinema. They seem to make it last two hours or so.
Surely staff should refuse to sell them food if they are overweight anyway.

Its like refusing to sell alcohol to someone when they are drunk..............THEY`VE HAD ENOUGH

I`m sorry madam I cannot sell you that hot dog and that cola because you are morbidly obese.

It was so much better in France not having to put up with objectional tossers on NSC such as yourself. You have said it is 15 year olds and internet geeks , infact as usual you are being a stupid ignorant twat of the highest order but thats expected now , it is people of ALL ages from people all over the World. Why do you try not being a wanker for one day in your life, hey , you might even like it.

Yeah but it's mostly idiots 15 year olds and internet geeks. The fact you bring up this adolescent wank fest of a site as proof of the superioty of whatever the latest marketing scam you've fallen for says so much about your inability to form a coherent critical argument. You wave lists of box office receipts around as if they prove anything, beyond the fact you like mainstream pap.
Now there's nothing wrong with mainstream, but try something a little left-field now and again, broaden your horizons, Your taste is so middle of the road it's impossible to take anything you recommend seriously, you pompous selfrighteous cretin.

Off to the cimema last night to watch the 12A rated Batman.
Sat in the front were 2 sisters, perhaps, 6 & 8, with their parents.

How can Mum and Dad say 'yeah they will love that'.
I'm a 38 year old fat bloke who jumped out of his seat at one bit, which then lead to a torture scene.
Not to mention the facial effects.
And on top of it all that the film finished at 11o'clock, way past bedtime.

When we left Casino Royale, an ashened face girl, of a similar age, would no let go of her father's leg, and they had to 3-legged walk to their car.

What will these kids watch when they are 11/12, years old?
Are these the same parents who say, 'children grow up so fast these days'?
Why would you actively take your kids childhood away?

I just don't get it, how can you be that selfish and still have children.

I totally agree, the BBCFC has made a total balls-up of the 12A certificate.

Apology accepted. Could have done without the image of a hot and sweaty US though.

We HAVE digressed but what I don't like about the IMDB list (aside from the fact it IS a geeky nerd site and thus the result is skewed towards films that geeky nerds like) is the fact that it includes recent, even current films. It's a bit like when they do those '100 greatest songs of all time' lists and you get some bit of ephemeral pop fluff in at number 53 simply because it was in the charts when the votes were cast.

If you look at the list 17 of the 30 are over 25 years old.

Yes, but you need a time-lapse to get a bit of perspective. Most of the songs in a '100 greatest hits' are old but that doesn't stop crap but current songs from appearing. Ergo current entries should be disqualified.

EDIT: If you saw my original answer I mis-read your post. Sorry.

Of the curent top 30, 6 would be in my top 30 and 8 in my top 50, The Dark Knight could well be one of the greatest 30 films ever made, certainly the concensus is that this year WALL.E and The Dark Knight are 2 of the best films produced for some time.

I think its a great certificate.
With so many people complaining about nanny states and political correctness, the 12A certificate is really good. It allows parents to make judgements about whether their child is mature enough to cope with the film, as each child will be different. As well as the certificate the BBFC published detailed judgements which can help parents decide whether it is appropriate enough.

Now some parents are wholly iresponsible but why should the majority (and the majority of children) be punished for their mistakes.

I went to see American Gangster a while ago now which is an 18 certificate and includes pretty much everything from strong language and bloody violence to drug use and full nudity. A young couple came in and they had a little boy with them, couldn't have been more than 6 or 7. I don't think he watched the film, he looked like he had a gameboy or something but still sat in the seat so could see the screen. Some people should be banned from having children if that is how they treat them
